This paper considers the problem of locating sensors on the flexible structures with the aim of maximizing the data information so that structural dynamic behavior could be fully characterized. Since only translational degrees of freedoms (DOFs) are considered for possible sensor installation in the state-of-the-practice, a method which could avoid distinguishing the translational and rotational DOFs is presented. In order to realize the proposed method and to demonstrate its effectiveness, three different sensor placement techniques, EfI, EfI-DPR and Uniform, were employed to a super tall building. The calculation results showed that the proposed method is easy in understanding and could be used practically by civil engineers. EfI method provides a more effective method for optimal sensor placement than other ones to identify the vibration characteristics of the studied building.

Knowledge of the nature and behavior of forces acting on an arc is important when designing furnaces, controlling and automating their work. The effect of electromagnetic arc blowing has a negative effect on technical and economic indicators of the furnace, since the arc is removed from dimples in metal and slag. Radiation of the arc on walls and arch increases. And the effective power absorbed by the metal decreases. For this and a number of other tasks, it is necessary to know the dynamic behavior of the arc, which is largely determined by the instantaneous values and directions of the individual forces and the resultant force. The paper discusses the behavior of an electromagnetic force acting on an arc column from currents flowing through a liquid metal and currents flowing through other parallel arcs and graphitized electrodes in a three-phase AC arc furnace. It was assumed that the arcs burn perpendicular to the surface of the metal bath (their axes coincide with the axes of the electrodes) and effective value of the linear currents in different phases is the same. A mathematical model is proposed for calculating the instantaneous values and directions of the main electromagnetic forces acting on arcs in a three-phase arc furnace, allowing to reveal the nature of arcs dynamic behavior. A computer program has been created that makes it possible to visualize the behavior of a hodograph of forces acting on an arc. Hodographs of forces acting on the arc from the currents flowing through the melt are shown; they are ellipses lying in a horizontal plane. The resulting force deflecting an arc is also an even harmonic function with a frequency twice as high as the industrial frequency of the current. Its hodograph is an ellipse lying in a horizontal plane, the big semi-axis of which makes an angle of 20 – 80° with a line connecting the center of decay of the electrodes and the electrode axis.

There are many problems facing the designers of turbomachines with the demand for ever increasing capabilities and reliability. One problem that requires considerable attention is the vibration characteristics of some components. It is object of this work to determine the dynamic behavior, namely natural frequencies, mode shapes of a centrifugal impeller which are being important design parameters in order to avoid costly failures in the development phase. This work divides into three sections. First, a Finite Element structural dynamic analysis is presented. Then experimental procedure used to determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes is described together with the comparison of the results obtained both theoretically through FEM and experimentally. Finally, interferometric holography technique is used as a means for obtaining the dynamic behavior of the impeller.

In this study, effective computational procedures are introduced and used to characterize the dynamic behavior of cylindrical panels with circular cross-section having the single delamination between laminate layers. Based on the computed results it is possible to determine the effect of delamination on the overall structural dynamic behavior. Those results are used to quantify the difference between the results of the relevant parameters in the cases of perfect and defected structures. Usually, the wave propagation can be observed with the use of piezoelectric sensors. Therefore, in the next step of our analysis we modeled delaminated structures with a finite number of PZT sensors to consider also their influence on the structural dynamic response. The numerical analysis have been conducted with the use of 3D finite elements. A lot of numerical results allow us to understand better the influence of various parameters on the form of wave propagation in cylindrical multilayered shells.

Abstract Heritage constructions presents high significance and importance for society. As way of contribution for the preservation of the heritage constructions, this paper presents a study on the dynamic behavior of a heritage construction, part of the historic center of Sobral city, located at the north region of Ceará State, namely the Nossa Senhora das Dores Church, a church from the beginning of the 19th century, built in clay brick walls. In this study, ambient vibration tests were performed aiming to obtainment of the natural frequencies of the building focusing the calibration of the numerical model and, from it, proceeding with modal analysis by Finite Element Method (FEM) with recurrence to software Ansys®. The results allowed the analysis of the structural dynamic behavior taking into account natural frequencies, modal shapes and directional displacements.

Two methods are generally used for the aeroelastic analysis of bladed-disc assemblies. The first, often referred to as the energy method, assumes that the fluid does not modify invacuum structural dynamic behavior. On the other hand, the second, based on an eigenvalue approach, considers the feedback effect of the fluid on the structure. In this paper, these methods are compared using different test cases, in order to highlight the limitations of the energy method. Within this comparison, the effect of material modifications on the coupled behavior of the assembly is examined.
