The title compound, {[Cd2(C2H3O3)2(SO4)(H2O)4]·H2O}n, was obtained unintentionally in a transmetallation reaction. The crystal structure contains a two-dimensional metal–organic framework based on CdII–(μ-hydroxyacetato-κ4O1,O2:O1,O1′)–CdIIzigzag chains joined together by bridging SO4anions. The resulting layers are shifted with respect to each other and are stacked along thecaxis. Their construction is supported by hydrogen bonds between water molecules and between water molecules and carboxylate or sulfate groups. Neighbouring layers are bridged by hydrogen bonds between the hydroxyl substituent and a sulfate anion. The sulfate anion and solvent water molecule are located on twofold axes. The results demonstrate that care must be taken when preparing ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid-type complexes by transmetallation, in order to avoid precipitation of metal complexes with the α-hydroxyacetate ligand.

In the title polymeric complex, {[Fe(CN)2(C10H8N2)2(H2O)2][Au(CN)2]} n , the FeII ion, which is located on a twofold rotation axis, has a slightly distorted FeN4O2 octahedral geometry. It is coordinated by two phenylpyrazine molecules, two water molecules and two dicyanoaurate anions, the Au atom also being located on a second twofold rotation axis. In the crystal, the coordinated dicyanoaurate anions bridge the FeII ions to form polymeric chains propagating along the b-axis direction. In the crystal, the chains are linked by Owater—H...Ndicyanoaurate anions hydrogen bonds and aurophillic interactions [Au...Au = 3.5661 (3) Å], forming layers parallel to the bc plane. The layers are linked by offset π–π stacking interactions [intercentroid distance = 3.643 (3) Å], forming a supramolecular metal–organic framework.

A novel metal–organic framework, {[Zn2Cl4(C25H24N4O4)]·4C3H7NO}n, has been synthesized solvothermally by assembling the semi-rigid tetrahedral ligand tetrakis[(pyridin-4-yl)oxymethyl]methane (tpom) and zinc nitrate in dimethylformamide (DMF). The crystal structure is noncentrosymmetric (P\overline{4}21c). Each ZnIIcation has a tetrahedral coordination environment (C2symmetry), which is formed by two chloride ligands and two pyridine N atoms from two tpom ligands. The tetrahedral tetradentate tpom linker has a quaternary C atom located on the crystallographic \overline{4} axis. This linker utilizes all the peripheral pyridine N atoms to connect four ZnIIcations, thereby forming a wave-like two-dimensional sheet along thecaxis. The two-dimensional layer can be topologically simplified as a typical uninodal 4-connected sql/Shubnikov net, which is represented by the Schläfli symbol {44,62}. Adjacent layers are further packed into a three-dimensional structure by C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds.

The title compound bis(1,4-diazoniabicyclo[2.2.2]octane) di-μ-chlorido-bis[tetrachloridobismuthate(III)] dihydrate, (C6H14N2)2[Bi2Cl10]·2H2O, was obtained by slow evaporation at room temperature of a hydrochloric aqueous solution (pH = 1) containing bismuth(III) nitrate and 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) in a 1:2 molar ratio. The structure displays a two-dimensional arrangement parallel to (100) of isolated [Bi2Cl10]4−bioctahedra (site symmetry -1) separated by layers of organic 1,4-diazoniabicyclo[2.2.2]octane dications [(DABCOH2)2+] and water molecules. O—H...Cl, N—H...O and N—H...Cl hydrogen bonds lead to additional cohesion of the structure.

A new one-dimensional NiIIcoordination polymer of 1,3,5-tris(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene, namelycatena-poly[[aqua(sulfato-κO)hemi(μ-ethane-1,2-diol-κ2O:O′)[μ3-1,3,5-tris(1H-imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene-κ3N3,N3′,N3′′]nickel(II)] ethane-1,2-diol monosolvate monohydrate], {[Ni(SO4)(C18H18N6)(C2H6O2)0.5(H2O)]·C2H6O2·H2O}n, was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The NiIIcation is coordinated by three N atoms of three different 1,3,5-tris(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene ligands, one O atom of an ethane-1,2-diol molecule, by a sulfate anion and a water molecule, forming a distorted octahedral NiN3O3coordination geometry. The tripodal 1,3,5-tris(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene ligands link the NiIIcations, generating metal–organic chains running along the [100] direction. Adjacent chains are further connected by O—H...O hydrogen bonds, resulting in a two-dimensional supermolecular architecture running parallel to the (001) plane. Another water molecule and a second ethane-1,2-diol molecule are non-coordinating and are linked to the coordinating sulfate ionsviaO—H...O hydrogen bonds.

The reaction of aminophosphinic acid with CdCl2·2.5H2O or CoCl2·6H2O in concentrated hydrochloric acid yielded the isostructural compounds 1,4-bis{[hydroxy(phenyl)phosphoryl]methyl}piperazine-1,4-diium tetrachloridocadmate(II) dihydrate, (C18H26N2O4P2)[CdCl4]·2H2O, (I), and 1,4-bis{[hydroxy(phenyl)phosphoryl]methyl}piperazine-1,4-diium tetrachloridocobaltate(II) dihydrate, (C18H26N2O4P2)[CoCl4]·2H2O, (II). The asymmetric unit of each contains two half dications, both located on crystallographic centres of inversion, a tetrachloridometallate(II) dianion and two solvent water molecules. The residues are linked into two-dimensional layers in theabplane by O—H...O hydrogen bonds.

In the crystal structure of the title organic proton-transfer complex, 2C12H11N2 +·C7H4O5S2−·3H2O, the cations form one-dimensional chains via intermolecular N—H...N hydrogen bonds and these chains, in turn, form a two-dimensional network through π–π stacking interactions. In addition, the anions and water molecules are connected into a two-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network through intermolecular O—H...O hydrogen bonds. The two motifs result in sheets of cations and anions stacked alternately.

In the title coordination polymer, [Ba(C5HN2O6)(C2O4)0.5(H2O)2]n, the tenfold coordination of the Ba centre consists of four O atoms from the two 4-nitro-2,5,6-trioxo-1,2,5,6-tetrahydropyridin-3-olate (L) anions, three O atoms of two oxalate anions and three water molecules. The Ba—O bond lengths fall in the range 2.698 (3)–2.978 (3) Å. TheLligand chelates two Ba atoms related by a screw axis, leading to formation of fused five- and six-membered chelate rings. Due to the bridging function of the ligands and water molecules, the complex monomers are connected into polymeric two-dimensional layers parallel to thebcplane. Intermolecular O—H...O hydrogen bonds link these layers into a three-dimensional supramolecular framework.
