Accurate theoretical knowledge of the (1s2p)3P1–(1s2s)1S0 splitting in He-like ions is demanded for future experimental studies of the nuclear spin-dependent part of the weak interaction. In this paper we perform a calculation of the hyperfine structure of (1s2p)3P1–(1s2s)1S0 within 3 ≤ Z ≤ 35, Z being the atomic number. In this Z range parity nonconservation (PNC) effects are amplified by the close energy proximity of the opposite parity levels (1s2p)3P1 and (1s2s)1S0. We find that the hyperfine structure is relevant for Z > 12, and produces splitting among the hyperfine sublevels as large as 150 meV for medium Z He-like ions (Z ∼ 35).

The measurement of parity nonconservation (PNC) in atomic cesium is discussed in detail. With a spin-polarized atomic beam, this experiment achieves a fractional uncertainty of 0.35% in the measurement of the PNC amplitude for the transition between the 6S and 7S states of cesium, the lowest uncertainty of atomic PNC to date. By comparing the PNC amplitude on two hyperfine transitions, we measure for the first time the nuclear-spin-dependent contribution that arises from the nuclear anapole moment. We report a theoretical treatment of the nuclear spin-dependent spatial parity nonconserving (NSD-PNC) electron–nuclear interaction effect in the diatomic homonuclear ortho-H 2 molecule. The magnetic dipole transition between v = 1 and v = 0 vibrational sublevels of the ground 1 Σ g + state is examined. The orthohydrogen molecule is a unique molecular system where the parity nonconserving (PNC) nuclear spin-dependent interaction due to the neutral weak currents can be directly observed and the corresponding coupling constant can be extracted from the future experiments. The theoretical simulation shows that using the cavity-enhanced scheme in conjunction with the record achievement of the intracavity absorption spectroscopy, the experiment on the observation of the NSD-PNC effect due to the neutral weak current in ortho-H 2 looks feasible.
