Multicomposition of Er3+-Yb3+codoped tellurite oxide, TeO2-ZnO-PbO-TiO2-Na2O glass has been investigated. Detailed spectroscopic study of the Judd-Ofelt analysis has been performed from the measured absorption spectrum in order to obtain the intensity parameters Ωt(t=2, 4, 6). The calculated Ωtvalues were then utilized in the determination of transition probabilities, radiative lifetimes and branching ratios of the Er3+transitions between theJ(upper)-J(lower) manifolds. Both visible upconversion and near-infrared spectra were characterized under the 980 nm laser diode excitation at room temperature.

An exact solution is given for the electromagnetic induction in a dipping dike of finite conductivity, represented as a thin half‐sheet in a nonconducting surrounding. The problem is formulated for arbitrary dipole or circular loop [Formula: see text] configurations. The formal solution obtained by the Wiener‐Hopf technique is cast into a rapidly convergent triple integral suitable for an effective numerical treatment. A good agreement is found between numerical results and analog measurements available for harmonic excitation. The transient response is obtained as a superposition of the half‐sheet free‐decay modes and is illustrated by some numerical examples for coincident loops, including a diagram for the approximate determination of conductance and depth of a vertical dike.

We update the extraction of Vus from hadronic τ decay data in light of recent BaBar and Belle results on the branching fractions of a number of important strange decay modes. A range of sum rule analyses is employed, particular attention being paid to those based on “non-spectral weights”, developed previously to bring the slow convergence of the relevant integrated D = 2 OPE series under improved control. Results from the various sum rules are in good agreement with one another, but ~ 3σ below expectations based on 3-family unitarity.
