We find an exact nonstatic charged BTZ-like solutions, in (N+1)-dimensional Einstein gravity in the presence of negative cosmological constant and a nonlinear Maxwell field defined by a power s of the Maxwell invariant, which describes the gravitational collapse of charged null fluid in an anti-de Sitter background. Considering the situation that a charged null fluid injects into the initially an anti-de Sitter spacetime, we show that a black hole form rather than a naked singularity, irrespective of spacetime dimensions, from gravitational collapse in accordance with cosmic censorship conjecture. The structure and locations of the apparent horizons of the black holes are also determined. It is interesting to see that, in the static limit and when N = 2, one can retrieve 2+1 BTZ black hole solutions.

In the context of the AdS/CFT conjecture1, a Schwarzschild-anti-de Sitter (SAdS) black hole may be looked at as a thermal state in the CFT. Perturbing the black hole corresponds in the CFT to perturb the thermal state. We considered an important specific perturbation - the radial infall of a small test particle coupled to a scalar field into a SAdS black hole. We computed the spectra, waveforms and total scalar energy radiated during this process. For small black holes, the spectra is dominated by a resonance, and the waveform by quasinormal ringing2,3,4. For large black holes we find that the waveform quickly settles down to its final zero value, always in a quasinormal way. The approach to thermal equilibrium in the CFT is therefore dictated by the lowest quasinormal frequency. We also commented on the interpretation of the bulk process when viewed from the brane: to the black hole corresponds a thermal bath, to the infalling probe corresponds an expanding bubble, and to the scalar field waves correspond particles decaying into bosons of the associate operator of the gauge theory. For more details see5,6.

Abstract Recently an anomalous decay rate of the quasinormal modes of a massive scalar field in Schwarzschild black holes backgrounds was reported in which the longest-lived modes are the ones with higher angular number, for a scalar field mass smaller than a critical value, while that beyond this value the behaviour is inverted. In this work, we extend the study to other asymptotic geometries, such as, Schwarzschild-de Sitter and Schwarzschild-AdS black holes. Mainly, we found that such behaviour and the critical mass are present in the Schwarzschild-de Sitter background. Also, we found that the value of the critical mass increases when the cosmological constant increases and also when the overtone number is increasing. On the other hand, despite the critical mass is not present in Schwarzschild-AdS black holes backgrounds, the decay rate of the quasinormal modes always exhibits an anomalous behaviour.

We prove a theorem that characterizes a two-parameter family of solutions to Einstein equations with a negative cosmological constant, representing, in general, non-spherical radiating black holes in an anti-de Sitter background. It is shown that the best known non-spherical radiating black hole solutions are particular cases and static non-spherical black hole solutions, for Type I fluid, are also retrieved. A brief discussion on the energy conditions, singularities and horizons is provided.

The entropy of a free scalar field is calculated in the Reissner–Nordström–(anti-)de Sitter spacetimes. Due to the presence of the cosmological horizon in the Reissner–Nordström–de Sitter spacetime, we introduce a cutoff at the cosmological horizon, besides the cutoff at the horizon of black holes in the brick wall model. The entropy is found to be the sum of two terms, which are proportional to the area of the cosmological horizon and of black hole horizon, respectively. In the Reissner–Nordström–anti-de Sitter spacetime the contribution of the anti-de Sitter background to the entropy of scalar fields vanishes when an infinite volume is taken. The entropy of scalar fields is also evaluated in some special backgrounds described by solutions of Einstein–Maxwell equations with a cosmological constant, such as the cold black holes, lukewarm black holes, ultracold solutions, a naked singularity in de Sitter space, and the de Sitter space. The physical meaning of some results is briefly discussed.
