Quantum field theory provides the framework for the most fundamental physical theories to be confirmed experimentally and has enabled predictions of unprecedented precision. However, calculations of physical observables often require great computational complexity and can generally be performed only when the interaction strength is weak. A full understanding of the foundations and rich consequences of quantum field theory remains an outstanding challenge. We develop a quantum algorithm to compute relativistic scattering amplitudes in massive $\phi^4$ theory in spacetime of four and fewer dimensions. The algorithm runs in a time that is polynomial in the number of particles, their energy, and the desired precision, and applies at both weak and strong coupling. Thus, it offers exponential speedup over existing classical methods at high precision or strong coupling.

We consider a general (nonlocal) four-fermion quantum field theory and show how the Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis effective action can be systematically expanded in the number, η, of composite, bose loops. This is achieved by the introduction of auxiliary, bilocal fields which describe fermion-fermion and fermion-antifermion correlations. The η expansion can be understood as a generalization of the [Formula: see text] expansion and is of particular interest in quark models, for example, where the bilocal fields can be identified with meson and diquark degrees of freedom. Comparison with the usual loop (ħ) expansion reveals some unusual characteristics of the η expansion and throws light on recent studies of diquark degrees of freedom in which the auxiliary field approach is used.

Starting from the complete Mellin representation of Feynman amplitudes for noncommutative vulcanized scalar quantum field theory, introduced in a previous publication, we generalize to this theory the study of asymptotic behaviors under scaling of arbitrary subsets of external invariants of any Feynman amplitude. This is accomplished in both convergent and renormalized amplitudes.
