The problem of the pion mass in quark models is studied in the M.I.T. bag model. A new value of the bag energy for the pion is obtained. It is shown that the pion mass is not given simply in the standard bag calculations. A nonzero pion mass seems to be a function of the quark mass, in agreement with spontaneously broken chiral symmetry. The pion decay constant is determined to be 94 MeV in excellent agreement with experiment.
