We report on searches for direct CP violation in the hadronic decays of charmed mesons. Results for the decay modes D0→K+ K-, D0→π+π- and D+→K+K-π+ are presented as are preliminary results for the decays [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text].

Exclusive two-body decay amplitudes of charmed mesons evaluated by Blok and Shifman (BS) using QCD sum rules are analyzed using the model-independent quark-diagram scheme, which helps to pin point the generic structure of the BS calculations, and their difficulties when compared with the experimental data. We also point out what experimental improvements on the data and which new data are most helpful in sharpening these comparisons. Some comments on possible ways of further improving the theoretical calculations are given.

We review the recent measurements of rare and forbidden decays of charmed mesons at the B-factories. A preliminary result of the first measurement of orbitally excited [Formula: see text] meson radiative decay to D0γ final state, and the most sensitive determination of limits on the leptonic D0 → ℓ+ ℓ- decays are briefly described.
