We investigate the role of undetermined finite contributions generated by radiative corrections in an SU (2)× SU (2) linear sigma model with quarks. Although some of such terms can be absorbed in the renormalization procedure, one such contribution is left in the expression for the pion decay constant. This arbitrariness is eliminated by chiral symmetry.

The leptonic decay of the charged pion in the presence of background magnetic fields is investigated using quenched Wilson fermions. It is demonstrated that the magnetic field opens up a new channel for this decay. The magnetic field-dependence of the decay constants for both the ordinary and the new channel is determined. Using these inputs from QCD, we calculate the total decay rate perturbatively.

We consider the (2+1)-dimensional gauged Thirring model in the Heisenberg picture. In this context we evaluate the vacuum polarization tensor as well as the corrected gauge boson propagator and address the issues of generation of mass and dynamics for the gauge boson (in the limits of QED3 and Thirring model as a gauge theory, respectively) due to the radiative corrections.

By involving the group indices of an SU(2) gauge theory in three Euclidean dimensions in the Lorentz transformation, one finds that the gauge field can be decomposed into a scalar, vector and tensor field which mix under a gauge transformation. It is shown how this gauge field can be coupled to an O(3) spinor field whose transformation properties allow one to decompose it into a fermionic scalar and a fermionic vector field. Radiative corrections must be done in a way that respects the dimensionality of the theory; it is demonstrated how operator regularization can be used to this end by computing the temperature dependence of the η function arising from spinors.

Axial form-factor of the radiative decay of charged pion is calculated using QCD sum rules method for non-diagonal correlator. For the ratio γ=FA(0)/FV(0) we find γ=0.6±0.15.
