Leptonic decay widths and the corresponding decay constants of neutral vector mesons are calculated in the framework of a square-root potential model of independent quarks. Starting with the assumption that a strong correlation exists between the momenta of the quark and anti-quark inside the meson so as to have their total momenta identically zero in the center-of-mass frame of the meson, we find the quark and anti-quark momentum distribution amplitude which is used to determine the transition probability amplitude for the leptonic decay of mesons. The calculated results for leptonic decay widths and the electromagnetic decay constants for the vector mesons \rho, \omega, \phi and \psi are in good agrement with the corresponding experimental values. The results for the heavy meson \Upsilon are somewhat lower than the experimental values.

The oscillation symmetry is first applied to electromagnetic interactions of particles and nuclei. It is shown that the differences between successive masses plotted versus their mean values and the electromagnetic decay widths Γee of 0^−(1^−−) b¯b and c¯c mesons, plotted versus their masses, agree with such symmetry. Then it is shown that the variation of the energy differences between different levels of several nuclei from 8Be to 20Ne, corresponding to given electric or magnetic transitions, display also oscillating behaviours. The electromagnetic widths of the electric and magnetic transitions between excited levels of these nuclei, plotted versus the corresponding differences between energies agree also with this property. The oscillating periods describe also an oscillation, the same for E1, M1, and E2 transitions. It is also the case for the multiplicative factor used β, and for ratios between these parameters. The oscillation symmetry is then applied to atomic energy levels of several neutral atoms from hydrogen to phosphorus. The data exhibit nice oscillations when plotted in the same way as before. The oscillations in various nuclear and atomic periods of different elements (A) exhibit the same shape and can be fitted by the same distribution.

AbstractRecently, LHCb Collaboration announced the discovery of radial excitations of $$D_s$$ D s and $$B_s$$ B s mesons. In present work, we calculate the most promising strong and electromagnetic decay widths of radially excited $$D_s(2S)$$ D s ( 2 S ) and $$B_s(2S)$$ B s ( 2 S ) mesons within the light cone QCD sum rules method.

We present a theoretical framework that accounts for the new DJ and DsJ mesons measured in the open-charm sector. These resonances are properly described if considered as a mixture of conventional P–wave quark-antiquark states and four-quark components. The narrowest states are basically P–wave quark-antiquark mesons, while the dominantly four-quark states are shifted above the corresponding two-meson threshold. We study the electromagnetic decay widths as basic tools to scrutiny their nature.

Abstract We analyse the experimental limits on the breaking scale of Pati-Salam extensions of the Standard Model. These arise from the experimental limits on rare-meson decay processes mediated at tree-level by the vector leptoquark in the model. This leptoquark ordinarily couples to both left- and right-handed SM fermions and therefore the meson decays do not experience a helicity suppression. We find that the current limits vary from $$ \mathcal{O} $$ O (80–2500) TeV depending on the choice of matrix structure appearing in the relevant three-generational charged-current interactions. We extensively analyse scenarios where additional fermionic degrees of freedom are introduced, transforming as complete Pati-Salam multiplets. These can lower the scales of Pati-Salam breaking through mass-mixing within the charged-lepton and down-quark sectors, leading to a helicity suppression of the meson decay widths which constrain Pati-Salam breaking. We find four multiplets with varying degrees of viability for this purpose: an SU(2)L/R bidoublet, a pair of SU(4) decuplets and either an SU(2)L or SU(2)R triplet all of which contain heavy exotic versions of the SM charged leptons. We find that the Pati-Salam limits can be as low as $$ \mathcal{O} $$ O (5–150) TeV with the addition of these four multiplets. We also identify an interesting possible connection between the smallness of the neutrino masses and a helicity suppression of the Pati-Salam limits for three of the four multiplets.
