We present a basic formalism for using the Weyl spinor notation in Feynman rules. We focus on Weyl spinors with mixed Dirac and Majorana mass terms. To clarify the definitions we derive the Feynman rules from the path integral and present two examples: loop corrections for a fermion propagator and a tree level analysis of a seesaw toy model.

The CUORE (Cryogenic Underground Observatory for Rare Events) experiment will search for neutrinoless double beta decay of 130Te, a rare nuclear process that, if observed, would demonstrate the Majorana nature of the neutrino and enable measurements of the effective Majorana mass. The CUORE setup consists of an array of 988 tellurium dioxide crystals, operated as bolometers, with a total mass of about 200 kg of 130Te. The experiment is under construction at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory in Italy. As a first step towards CUORE, the first tower (CUORE-0) has been assembled and will soon be in operation.

We study the existence of one/two texture zeros or one/two vanishing minors in the neutrino mass matrix with μτ symmetry. In the basis where the charged lepton mass matrix and the Dirac neutrino mass matrix are diagonal, the one/two zeros or one/two vanishing minors on the right-handed Majorana mass matrix having μτ symmetry will propagate via seesaw mechanism as one/two vanishing minors or one/two texture zeros in the neutrino mass matrix with μτ symmetry respectively. It is found that only five such texture structures of the neutrino mass matrix are phenomenologically viable. For tribimaximal mixing, these texture structures reduce the number of free parameters to one. Interesting predictions are obtained for the effective Majorana mass Mee, the absolute mass scale and the Majorana-type CP violating phases.

We show a simple mechanism for a dynamical CPT violation in the neutron sector. In particular, we show a CPT-violating see-saw mechanism, generating a Majorana mass and a CPT-violating mass for the neutron. CPT-violating see-saw involves a sterile partner of the neutron, living in a hidden sector, in which CPT is spontaneously broken. In particular, neutrons (antineutrons) can communicate with the hidden sector through nonperturbative quantum gravity effects called exotic instantons. Exotic instantons dynamically break R-parity, generating one effective vertex between the neutron and its sterile partner. In this way, we show how a small CPT-violating mass term for the neutron is naturally generated. This model can be tested in the next generation of experiments in neutron–antineutron physics. This strongly motivates researches of CPT-violating effects in neutron–antineutron physics as a test-bed for dynamical CPT-violations in SM.
