We show how deviations from the dimensional scaling laws for exclusive processes may be related to a breakdown in the locality of quark-hadron duality, i.e. the "restricted locality". For exclusive reactions like meson photo- and electroproduction above the resonance region, we explore the effects arising from such a local duality breaking and propose that it can be a possible source for oscillations about the smooth quark counting rule predicted by pQCD in the 90-degree differential cross sections.

At the laser electron photon facility at SPring-8 (LEPS), meson photoproduction reactions have been studied by using highly polarized photon beams produced by the Compton backscattering of the laser off the high energy electrons. The recent activities at the LEPS experiment are overviewed. From the recent results, the meson photo-production reactions at the backward angles, and the photoproduction of Λ(1405) are discussed. In order to extend our study to wider kinematical range, construction of the new beamline and the large acceptance detector has been started.

The problem of the Complete Experiment for photoproduction of pseudoscalar mesons is treated. First the issue is reviewed briefly in the context of full production spin amplitudes as well as a truncated partial wave analysis (TPWA). Complete sets of polarization observables are given for both cases. Then, a numerical procedure for single energy TPWA fits is presented and first results are shown.

The complete experiment problem for photoproduction of single pseudoscalar mesons is reviewed briefly. If this problem is investigated in the context of a truncated partial wave analysis, the chance emerges to obtain a unique multipole solution measuring less polarization observables than demanded by the classical solution of the problem that is formulated in terms of spin amplitudes.

Meson photoproduction was studied at the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) utilizing a 5.5 GeV/c photon beam incident on a hydrogen target. Here we report on the partial wave analyzes (PWA) performed on the exclusive final states π+π+π-n and K+K-π+n. In addition, CLAS has data on the final state π+π0π-p which will be reported in the near future. The analysis of the π+π+π- system shows clearly the a2(1320), as well as evidence for the a1(1260) and the π2(1670). The π1(1600), previously observed in π-p interactions, is seen very weakly here. In the K+K-π+n channel there is is evidence for the Θ+(1540) S=+1 baryon pentaquark. The PWA of this system gives an excellent description of the background which rules out mesonic reflection as a source of the signal.
