Dynamics of heavy-ion low energy damped collisions is studied within the model based on the Langevin type equations. Shell effects on the multi-dimensional potential energy surface play an important role in these reactions. This leads to several local minima on the fission path of heavy nucleus — so called isomeric states which are nothing else but the two-cluster configurations with magic or semi-magic cores surrounded with a certain number of shared nucleons. In a giant nuclear system (formed, for example, in U + U collision) the three-body clustering configurations may also appear. Enhanced yield of the nuclides far from the projectile and target masses was found in the multi-nucleon transfer reactions due to the shell effects. It suggests that the low-energy damped collisions of transactinide nuclei may be used as an alternative way for the production of surviving superheavy long-living neutron-rich nuclei.

With the goal of using chiral interactions at various orders to explore the properties of the few-body nuclear systems, we write the recently developed local chiral interactions as spherical irreducible tensors and implement them in the hyperspherical harmonics expansion method. We devote particular attention to three-body forces at next-to-next-to leading order, which play an important role in reproducing experimental data. We check our implementation by benchmarking the ground-state properties of 3H, 3He, and 4He against the available Monte Carlo calculations. We then confirm their order-by-order truncation error estimates and further investigate uncertainties in the charge radii obtained by using the precise muonic atom data for single-nucleon radii. Having local chiral Hamiltonians at various orders implemented in our hyperspherical harmonics suites of codes opens up the possibility to test such interactions on other light-nuclei properties, such as electromagnetic reactions.

An asymptotic theory is proposed for the peripheral transfer [Formula: see text] reaction at low energies within the three-body ([Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]) model by combining the dispersion theory and DWBA, where [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] is a transferred particle. The contribution of the three-body ([Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]) Coulomb dynamics of the transfer mechanism both to the peripheral partial amplitudes for the partial wave [Formula: see text] and to the DWBA amplitude is investigated. The results of the analysis of the differential cross sections of the specific proton transfer reactions at above-barrier energies are presented. New estimates and their uncertainties are obtained for values of the asymptotic normalization coefficients for [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] as well as for the direct astrophysical [Formula: see text] factors at stellar energy of the radiative capture [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] reactions.

Investigations of three-body nuclear systems using pionless effective field theory ([Formula: see text]) are reviewed. The history of [Formula: see text] in [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] scattering is briefly discussed and emphasis put on the use of strict perturbative techniques. In addition renormalization issues appearing in [Formula: see text] scattering are also presented. Bound state calculations are addressed and new perturbative techniques for describing them are highlighted. Three-body breakup observables in [Formula: see text] scattering are also considered and the utility of [Formula: see text] for addressing them.

Laboratory reaction rate constant measurements for negative ion – atom interchange reactions, negative ion charge transfer reactions, and negative ion three-body association reactions of aeronomic interest are reviewed and the available data tabulated. The present experimental techniques in use are briefly summarized. Most of the rate constants have been measured only at 300 °K; in a few cases data is available at energies [Formula: see text] as well as at 300 °K, so that an indication of the energy dependence of the rate constants is available.
