A detailed numerical study of radiative corrections in the low Q2 region at the HERA ep collider was performed. The specific case of the total photoproduction cross section measurement was taken as an example. Two different programs, TERAD91 and HER-ACLES4.2, were used to get an estimate of the size of radiative effects. It was found that radiative corrections can be quite large at some points of the space of leptonic (x, y) variables. However, after imposing experimentally feasible cuts on the radiated photon and the hadronic final state one gets corrections at the level of a few per cent.

We consider the recent limits on dark matter–nucleon elastic scattering cross-section from the analysis of CDMS II collaboration using the two signal events observed in CDMS experiment. With these limits we try to interpret the super-Kamiokande (SK) bounds on the detection rates of up-going muons induced by the neutrinos that are produced in the sun from the decay of annihilation products of dark matter (WIMP's) captured in the solar core. Calculated rates of up-going muons for different annihilation channels at SK using CDMS bounds are found to be orders below the predicted upper limits of such up-going muon rates at SK. Thus there exists room for enhancement (boost) of the calculated rates using CDMS limits for interpreting SK bounds. Such a feature is expected to represent the PAMELA data with the current CDMS limits. We also show the dependence of such a possible enhancement factor (boost) on WIMP mass for different WIMP annihilation channels.

We present a measurement of the Z → bb̄ production cross section in pp collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV . We use a data set of 5.46 fb-1 collected by the CDF experiment at the Tevatron collider during Run II using a dedicated trigger path which required a displaced vertex compatible with a b-hadron decay. A data-driven procedure is applied to estimate the dijet mass spectrum of the non-resonant multijet background. Using a similar strategy we set one of the most stringent upper limits on the production of a Higgs-like particle in association with b quarks. We also set a limit on the inclusive SM H → bb̄.

A MC method is proposed to compute upper limits, in a pure Bayesian approach, when the errors associated to the experimental sensitivity and to the expected background content are not Gaussian distributed or not small enough to apply the usual approximations. It is relatively easy to extend the procedure to the multichannel case (for instance when different decay branchings, or luminosities or experiments have to be combined). Some of the searches for supersymmetric particles performed in the DELPHI experiment at the LEP electron–positron collider use such a procedure to propagate the systematics into the calculation of the cross-section upper limits. One of these searches will be described as an example.
