Summary Models are developed for foam breakup in a batch separator, as well as inlet–cyclone and gas/liquid–cylindrical–cyclone (GLCC) compact separators, by improving the Saint–Jalmes et al. (2000) “1–g” foam–batch–separator model. The modified batch–separator model shows a better performance with respect to experimental data than does the original model. An extension of the modified “1–g” foam–batch–separator model to swirling foam flow in cyclones is developed, which accounts for the effect of higher g–forces in the cyclones. The extended model accurately predicts experimental foam–breakup data for both the inlet–cyclone and the GLCC compact separators.

In this work we extract the alpha spectroscopic factor ( S α) of 16 O ground state from breakup reaction. The CDCC theory is used to extract S α by comparison with 16 O breakup data from a light target (27 Al ). Extracted values show a small dependence on the single particle binding potential of 16 O at forward angles. At incident energies between 72 to 125 MeV S α varies from 2.29-2.83 (Wood Saxon binding potential) and between 2.42-3.72 (Gaussian potential).

Penetration and breakup characteristics of a discrete liquid jet injected into a high-velocity cross flowing airstream were investigated as a basis of plain-jet airblast atomizer design. The main variables covered in this phase were, airstream velocity (from about 35 to 150 m/s), liquid jet velocity (from about 5 to 25 m/s) and injection orifice diameter (from about 0.5 to 2.5 mm). The tests were conducted under conditions of normal atmospheric pressure and temperature using still photography for penetration profile and a laser light scattering technique for mean dropsize determination. The experimental penetration data is shown to agree, reasonably accurately, with a relatively simple model developed in the paper. The analysis of the experimental breakup data reveals the airstream velocity as exercising the strongest influence upon Sauter Mean Diameter.

Dp breakup reaction is investigated in the energy range 300-500 MeV at the Internal Target of the Nuclotron using unpolarized and polarized beams by DSS collaboration. The goal of the study is to obtain information about nucleon-nucleon correlations at short distances, non-nucleonic degrees of freedom and relativistic effects. A part of the breakup data at 300 MeV and 400 MeV has been obtained in kinematics where relativistic effects would have a significant contribution.
