The possibility of influencing nuclear beta decay with high intensity optical lasers is examined numerically with the appropriate exact wave functions of a Dirac electron in a plane-wave field, as in previous literature. The total β-decay rate for 3H is found to be unaffected by the laser field for a 2-eV laser with intensities in the range 1018–1020 W/cm2.
