The study of the nuclear structure for the elements 12C, 40Ca, and 6Li has been performed in the momentum range from 0 to 0.8 GeV/c by using K+N phase shifts. An optical potential is used to calculate the elastic differential cross section and total cross section for K+ scattering from 12C, 40Ca, and 6Li. Comparison with previous experiments shows better results for the elements 6Li and 40Ca and fair agreement for the element 12C.

We determine the properties of kaonic (K-) nuclei in the Skyrme–Hartree–Fock nuclear structure approach. We use a standard chiral model with adjustable interaction strength for the kaon–nucleon interaction. The sensitivity to details of the nuclear Skyrme force, in particular, the nuclear compressibility, is studied. We find instabilities for a too strong kaon–nucleon interaction, which effectively limits the maximum binding of the kaon in this approach.

In this brief report, we make a short review of progress in developing the microscopic optical potential in recent years. In particular, we present our current studies and plans on building the microscopic optical potential based on the so-called nuclear structure models at low energies.
