Abstract This study defines a monitoring method based on impedance analysis in the upper part of the spectrum. It focuses on the analysis of the high frequency behavior of electrical machines windings considering the turn-to-turn capacitance variations (delta-C) due to insulation aging. An equivalent circuit is automatically generated from the turn arrangements in coils; parameters are computed considering the coil shape and the characteristics of insulation materials. PSpice analysis of the equivalent circuit yields the resonance frequencies to be monitored. With this software and a database giving the relationship between the turn-to-turn capacitance variation delta-C and the reduction of insulation performances due to aging, it is possible to build a monitoring system able to produce an alert when the probability of failure becomes higher than a predetermined level.

The accurate establishment of the equivalent circuit model of the synchronous machine windings’ broadband characteristics is the basis for the study of high-frequency machine problems, such as winding fault diagnosis and electromagnetic interference prediction. Therefore, this paper proposes a modeling method for synchronous machine winding based on broadband characteristics. Firstly, the single-phase high-frequency lumped parameter circuit model of synchronous machine winding is introduced, then the broadband characteristics of the port are analyzed by using the state space model, and then the equivalent circuit parameters are identified by using an optimization algorithm combined with the measured broadband impedance characteristics of port. Finally, experimental verification and comparison experiments are carried out on a 5-kW synchronous machine. The experimental results show that the proposed modeling method identifies the impedance curve of the circuit parameters with a high degree of agreement with the measured impedance curve, which indicates that the modeling method is feasible. In addition, the comparative experimental results show that, compared with the engineering exploratory calculation method, the proposed parameter identification method has stronger adaptability to the measured data and a certain robustness. Compared with the black box model, the parameters of the proposed model have a certain physical meaning, and the agreement with the actual impedance characteristic curve is higher than that of the black box model.

From the perspectives of characterized data, calibrated TCAD simulations and compact modeling, we present a deeper investigation of the very high frequency behavior of state-of-the-art sub-THz silicon germanium heterojunction bipolar transistors (SiGe HBTs) fabricated with 55-nm BiCMOS process technology from STMicroelectronics. The TCAD simulation platform is appropriately calibrated with the measurements in order to aid the extraction of a few selected high-frequency (HF) parameters of the state-of-the-art compact model HICUM, which are otherwise difficult to extract from traditionally prepared test-structures. Physics-based strategies of extracting the HF parameters are elaborately presented followed by a sensitivity study to see the effects of the variations of HF parameters on certain frequency-dependent characteristics until 500 GHz. Finally, the deployed HICUM model is evaluated against the measured s-parameters of the investigated SiGe HBT until 500 GHz.

ABSTRACTAn investigation of the frequency behavior of polycrystalline ferrites is presented. It is shown that the low frequency dispersion (f < 10 MHz) of permeability is associated with the bulging of pinned domain walls, and has a mixed resonance-relaxation character, closer to the latter. It is also shown that there is a linear relationship between the magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant, K1, and the relaxation frequency. The slope of this correlation depends on the grain size. Such a relationship could allow the determination of this basic parameter from polycrystalline samples.
