The properties of the Sussex interaction are tested in the study of the n–16O elastic scattering described by the potential scattering in the Hartree–Fock field. This force leads to an easy determination of the self-consistent field, but gives s1/2 and d3/2 phase shifts which are not very satisfactory. This results from the important gap separating bound and unbound states. Further, some uncertainty in the calculation arises from approximations necessary in order to obtain some nondiagonal matrix elements of the two body force which are necessary in the determination of the phase shifts.

A phenomenological NN interaction has been developed in momentum space to fit the elastic scattering phase shifts, the deuteron properties and to saturate nuclear matter. The special features of this interaction are gaussian momentum dependent form factors and the use of only three mesons to characterise the phase shifts.

The Relationship

The relationship between the elastic scattering phase shifts of the [Formula: see text] system and the two-particle energy spectrum in elongated boxes is established in center-of-mass frame under periodic boundary conditions. The formulas are also extended to cubic boxes to confirm the results in elongated boxes. Our analytical results will be helpful to the study of [Formula: see text] interaction on lattice by using Lüscher’s finite volume method.
