ABSTRACTThe aim was to evaluate the effect of seed treatment with plant growth regulators and nitrogen fertilization methods in Brachiaria decumbens cv. Basilisk on the growth and development through germinative characteristics, dry matter yield and physiological composition. Plant growth regulators increased germination and mass yields of plant structures in coated seeds. From the regression estimates, higher germination percentages and root dry mass production were obtained with the use of Plant growth regulators for the initial growth (10.3; 12.8 mL.kg−1 seed, respectively). Leaf and pseudostem mass production had a significant interaction effect between seed type and the use of growth regulator. Coated seeds had greater performance with absence or at lower levels of growth regulators, and embryo quality contributed to the greater formation of plant tissues. More efficient levels (8.85 and 9.57 mL.kg−1 seed) were observed for the yields of plant structures (leaf and pseudostem). Soil N-fertilization resulted in higher dry mass productions of leaf, stem, shoot and root, as well as for root volume. Rates of photoassimilate were increased by soil fertilization and use of plant growth regulators. The use of exogenous hormonal compounds acts on the organogenesis of plant tissues and increases the development of Brachiaria decumbens cv. Basilisk. Soil N-fertilization increase mass yields as it maximizes photosynthetic processes and growth rates.

We aimed to establish the period of time required for seedlings formation, as well as to evaluate the effect of substrates and plant growth regulators in cuttings of L. alba. Three experiments were performed, with statistical designs chosen according to each test objectives. Rooting (%), shoot height (cm), longest root length (cm), leaves number, fresh and dry matter masses (g), were analyzed. The absolute rate of shoot and root system growth, together with the relationship between dry mass of roots and shoots were efficient in predicting the period of greatest speed and accumulation of organic matter in plants. The plant growth regulators favored the vegetative performance of seedlings, with better development 30 days after the cuttings containing mineral fertilizers, vermicompost, clay soil and sand commercially known as 'medium sand'.

Plant growth regulators in the germination of Diospyros hispida A. DC. (Ebenaceae) Seed. Diospyros hispida species is a native fruit that has long germination period, hindering seedling production. The aim of this work was to evaluate the germination of Diospyros hispida seeds under the effect of gibberellic acid and biostimulant applications. Four replicates of 25 seeds per treatment were used. Treatments were: T1 - distilled water, T2, T3 and T4 - GA3 solutions at 100, 150 and 200 mg L-1, respectively, T5 - Immersion for 24 hours in distilled water with aeration, T6, T7 and T8 - Immersion for 24 hours in aerated GA3 solutions at 100, 150 and 200 mg L-1, respectively, T9, T10 and T11 - biostimulant application (containing auxin, gibberellin and cytokinin) at 3, 5 and 7 ml kg-1 of seeds. Germination rate, mean germination time, germination speed index, synchronization index, relative germination frequency, normal seedlings, root length, shoot length and seedling dry mass were evaluated. The effect of gibberellic acid and biostimulant containing auxin, gibberellin and cytokinin negatively influenced Diospyros hispida germination under the conditions of this study.

Plant growth regulators (PGRs) are used as a management tool to minimize plant height and subsequent stem lodging in grass seed crops. Their efficacy is influenced not only by the method of application, but also by the management and genetic variations within and between species. This aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of PGRs on morphological traits of generative tillers and seed yield of Festuca rubra L ssp. rubra (strong creeping red fescue) and F. r. L ssp. commutata (Chewings red fescue) under low and medium doses of spring nitrogen fertilization (40 and 70 kg N ha−1). PGRs were applied as: chlormequat chloride (CCC) at BBCH 30–31; CCC at BBCH 30–31 + ethephon (ET) at BBCH 37–39; CCC at BBCH 30–31 + trinexapac-ethyl (TE) at BBCH 37–39. All the application methods of PGRs resulted in the shortening of the second internode, and the sequential application of CCC with ET or TE also resulted in the shortening of the third internode. In each PGR treatment, the lodging index in the plant (canopy height to tiller length ratio) was higher than that of the control. PGRs had a beneficial effect on the seed yield. The greatest increase in the seed yield was recorded after the application of CCC+TE. No interaction between PGRs and spring N fertilization rates on the seed yield of red fescue. The increase in the dose of spring nitrogen fertilizer from 40 to 70 kg N ha−1 resulted in a significant increase in yield. Seed yield of chewing red fescue cv. Dorosa was 29% higher than strong creeping red fescue cv. Nista, mainly due to an increase in the number of generative tillers.

Caesalpinia pyramidalis is a species endemic to the Caatinga and known popularly as catingueira, which is widely used by local people, mainly for its timber and medicinal and fodder properties. This study investigated the effects of different types and concentrations of plant growth regulators on the in vitro multiplication of C. pyramidalis. In the first experiment, nodal segments were inoculated in media containing different combinations (0.0–8.0 µM) of BAP and NAA. In the second experiment, nodal segments wereinoculated in media containing different types (KIN, BAP and TDZ) and concentrations (0.0–16μM) of cytokinins. We used a WPM medium supplemented with 87.64 mM sucrose and solidified with 7.0 g L-1 agar. After 45 days, the highest number of shoots, leaf number, shoot length and dry mass of shoots were obtained when nodal segments were inoculated into a culture medium without plant growth regulators.

The influence of 24-epibrassinolide on the efficiency of regenerants obtained from embryonic calli formation was studied in wheat cultivars contrast for drought resistance. The possibility of using the experimental model system «immature embryo – embryonic callus – regenerant» in the rapid assessment of the effect of antistress plant growth regulators is shown.
