AbstractWe introduce a new approach to Bayesian pRF model estimation using Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling for simultaneous estimation of pRF and hemodynamic parameters. To obtain high performance on commonly accessible hardware we present a novel heuristic consisting of interpolation between precomputed responses for predetermined stimuli and a large cross-section of receptive field parameters. We investigate the validity of the proposed approach with respect to MCMC convergence, tuning and biases. We compare different combinations of pRF - Compressive Spatial Summation (CSS), Dumoulin-Wandell (DW) and hemodynamic (5-parameter and 3-parameter Balloon-Windkessel) models within our framework with and without the usage of the new heuristic. We evaluate estimation consistency and log probability across models. We perform as well a comparison of one model with and without lookup table within the RStan framework using its No-U-Turn Sampler. We present accelerated computation of whole-ROI parameters for one subject. Finally, we discuss risks and limitations associated with the usage of the new heuristic as well as the means of resolving them. We found that the new algorithm is a valid sampling approach to joint pRF/hemodynamic parameter estimation and that it exhibits very high performance.

Chromatography is a widely used analytical tool for separating a mixture of compounds into individual component. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is one of the most important methods used for the separation, identification and quantification of a compounds present in a mixture. It meets many criteria of analysis but its main drawbacks are it is relatively time consuming to run a chromatogram and consumes high amount of solvent compared to other analytical methods. There is a need to develop a method which can overcome these drawbacks of HPLC. Ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) is the new approach which opens novel direction in the field of liquid chromatography. It works on similar principle but shows better performance than conventional HPLC. UPLC is a technique of liquid chromatography with improved runtime and sensitivity with less than 2 μm particle size. The UPLC separation process is carried out under very high pressure (up to100 MPa). Additionally, it reduces the cost of reagent with shorter run time as compared to conventional HPLC. This article updated until 2020, provides a general review on the principle, instrumentation and application of UPLC in different fields of science.

<span>In this paper, a new approach is proposed for keeping the RMS voltage output constant, the system is supplying by a self-excited induction generator (SEIG) driven by a controlled DC motor with variable speed and load. The scheme used in this paper is based on a classical Proportional-Integral regulator wich controls a SPWM switching. A MATLAB Simulink model of the system is developed to maintain the AC voltage at the desired value. Then a comparison is examined between simulation and experimental results using dSPACE board. The results are provided to verify the effectiveness of this approach and it gives very high performance.</span>

In recent years, there has been increased world-wide concern over residual (carry-over) activity of mostly high temperature (HT) and very high temperature (VHT) stable amylases in white, refined sugars from refineries to various food and end-user industries. HT and VHT stable amylases were developed for much larger markets than the sugar industry with harsher processing conditions. There is an urgent need in the sugar industry to be able to remove or inactivate residual, active amylases either in factory or refinery streams or both. A survey of refineries that used amylase and had activated carbon systems for decolorizing, revealed they did not have any customer complaints for residual amylase. The use of high performance activated carbons to remove residual amylase activity was investigated using a Phadebas® method created for the sugar industry to measure residual amylase in syrups. Ability to remove residual amylase protein was dependent on the surface area of the powdered activated carbons as well as mixing (retention) time. The activated carbon also had the additional benefit of removing color and insoluble starch.

A new approach to theoretical evaluation of the Gibbs free energy of solvation was applied for estimation of retention data in high-performance liquid chromatography on reversed phases (RP-HPLC). Simple and improved models of stationary and mobile phases in RP-HPLC were employed. Statistically significant correlations between the calculated and experimental data were obtained for a heterogeneous series of twelve compounds.
