Anodization is a widely used method to obtain multicoloured oxidized titanium sheets. However, most researchers paid great attention to the colour-related properties instead of photoelectrical properties of titanium oxide film obtained by anodization. In this work, to study their photoelectrical properties, a series of multicoloured oxidized titanium sheets were prepared by anodization method, and UV–vis absorption and photocurrents were tested. The relationship between anodization voltages/anodization durations and photocurrents of titanium sheets was studied. Results show that titanium sheets have excellent photoelectrical performance. With the increase of anodization voltage, the number of UV–vis absorption peaks increased under visible light which means increasing absorption. When anodization duration increased, absorption band edge also increased in the visible light region, which means the band gap needed to produce charge transfer transition decreased. Under simulated sunlight and applied voltage of +0.4 V, photocurrent increased with the increase of either anodization voltage or anodization duration, and can be expressed by linear equations. In addition, anodization currents were recorded during anodization. Morphology, crystal structure and photoelectrical properties of anodized titanium sheets were characterized. The anodized titanium sheets can not only be used as decorative material in jewellery and architecture fields etc. but also are supposed to be used as photoelectrical catalyst in further work.

ABSTRACTA facile hydrothermal route assisted by polyethylene glycol (PEG) 400 was utilized to synthesize single-phase Bi2Fe4O9 crystallites. X-ray diffraction results showed the products with PEG 400 of 30 g/L exhibited a preferred growth along the (001) plane. Transmission electron microscopy indicated that the morphology of the as-prepared Bi2Fe4O9 crystallites with PEG 400 were plake-like and rod-like. Strong absorption in visible-light region of the products was characterized by UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectrum (UV-DRS). The photocatalytic activity of Bi2Fe4O9 crystallites was evaluated on degradation of methyl orange (MO) under visible light irradiation. For 3 h irradiation, the degradation ratio was increased to 93% with the aid of a small amount of H2O2. The analysis of FT-IR spectra proved that the Bi2Fe4O9 catalysts were remained stable after the photocalytic reactions.

Data from thirty-five digestibility trials with sheep in metabolism cages were used to investigate statistically the relationships between organic matter intake (I), faecal organic matter output (F), and the nitrogen concentration in faecal organic matter (N).The data fell easily into groups due to botanical or seasonal differences in the feed. These groups of data were homogeneous and provided highly significant linear equations of the forms I = bF + cFN and I = a + cFN. When compared these groups of data sometimes showed differences in slope, position or both. A quadratic expressionI = bF + cFN + dFN2was found to accommodate a majority of the data but to be less precise than I = a + cFN.A further expression incorporating N as an independent variable was also examined,I = a + cFN2 + eN.This expression, although far from being universally adequate, proved to be generally better than existing formulae. When applied to the data of Greenhalgh et. al. (1960), it substantially reduced heterogeneity between data for spring and data for summer pastures.Causes of variation in the relationship between organic-matter intake and nitrogen in faeces, and some of the hazards of extrapolation from empirical regression relations, are discussed.

The Bi2S3-TiO2-RGO composites were synthesized by a facile one-step hydrothermal method and applied for the photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B (Rh B) under the visible light. The Bi2S3-TiO2-RGO composites were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. The results indicated that the Bi2S3-TiO2-RGO composites were successfully prepared, and Ti-O-C and S-C bonds were existing among Bi2S3, TiO2 as well as RGO. Furthermore, the photocatalytic ability of Bi2S3-TiO2-RGO composites was excellent under visible light due to its responding to the whole visible light region, low recombination rate of photogenerated electron–hole pairs and relatively negative conduction band. Rh B photocatalytic degradation rate was 99.5% after 50[Formula: see text]min and still could reach 98.4% after five cycles. Finally, a formation mechanism as well as a photocatalytic mechanism of Bi2S3-TiO2-RGO composites were proposed based on the experimental results.

Abstract Nanosized, magnetically separable bismuth ferrite (BFO) nanoparticles, pertaining a crystallite size in the range of 14–15 nm were prepared via facile sol-gel technique. The product was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The product was explored for the photocatalytic mineralization of rhodamine B (RB) dye in aqueous medium. The effect of different investigational parameters such as amount of photocatalyst, initial dye concentration and irradiation time on the photocatalytic degradation of RB was studied. The results reveal that the catalyst shows good degrading ability under normal pH and visible light conditions. BFO nanoparticles demonstrated a strong absorption ability in the visible-light region, which lead to efficient photocatalytic degradation of RB dye The reaction system was heterogeneous in nature in which the catalyst can be separated by a normal magnet.

In the analysis of GNSS time series, when the sampling frequency and time-series lengths are almost identical, it is possible to highlight a linear relationship between the series repeatabilities (i.e. WRMS) and noise magnitudes. In the literature, linear equations as a function of WRMSs allowed many researchers to estimate the noise magnitudes. However, this was built upon homoskedasticity. We experienced the higher WRMSs, the more erroneous analysis results using the noise magnitudes from the linear equations stated. We hence studied whether or not homoscedasticity clearly describes the modeling errors. To test that, we used the published results of GPS baseline components from the previous work in the literature and realized here that each component forms part of the totality. We introduced all baseline component results as a whole into statistical analysis to check heteroskedasticity. We established null and alternative hypotheses on the residuals which are homoscedastic (H0) or heteroskedastic (HA). We adopted both the Breusch-Pagan test and the Goldfeld-Quandt test to prove heteroskedasticity and obtained p-values for both methods. The p-value, which is the probability measure, equals to almost zero for both test methods, that is, we fail to accept the null hypothesis. Consequently, we can confidently state that the relationship between the WRMSs and the noise magnitudes is heteroskedastic.

Keywords: Noise magnitudes, repeatabilities, heteroskedasticity, time-series analysis
