We provide a brief introduction to the ABJM theory, the level kU(N) × U(N) superconformal Chern-Simons matter theory which has been conjectured to describe N coincident M2 -branes. We discuss its dual formulation in terms of M -theory on AdS4 × S7/ℤk and review some of the evidence in favor of the conjecture. We end with a brief discussion of the important role played by the monopole operators.

Peripheral heavy-ion reactions at ultra relativistic energies have large angular momentum that can be studied via two particle correlations using the Differential Hanbury Brown and Twiss method. In the present work, we analyze the possibilities and sensitivity of the method in rotating, few source systems. Analytic results provide insight in the advantages of this method.

AbstractWe study radially symmetric systems with a singularity of repulsive type. In the presence of a radially symmetric periodic forcing, we show the existence of three distinct families of subharmonic solutions: One oscillates radially, one rotates around the origin with small angular momentum, and the third one with both large angular momentum and large amplitude. The proofs are carried out by the use of topological degree theory.
