Abstract The purpose of this paper is to introduce and give some properties of l-Rees matrix Γ-semigroups. Generalizing the results given by Guowei and Ping, concerning the congruences and lattice of congruences on regular Rees matrix Γ-semigroups, the structure theorem of l-congruences lattice of l - Γ-semigroup M = μº(G : I; L; Γe) is given, from which it follows that this l-congruences lattice is distributive.

In this paper, a numerical solution to the elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) problem is presented for a cylindrical roller with axially profiled ends, rolling over a flat plane. Convergence was obtained for moderate load and material parameters (glass, steel, and a mineral oil). Isobars, contours, and section graphs, show pressure variation and film shape. Predictions of film thickness compare favorably with experiments which use the optical interference method, as well as with other theoretical results for an infinite line contact, or an ellipse having a long slender aspect ratio. The maximum EHL pressure occurs near the start of the profiling and can exceed pressure concentrations there predicted by elastostatic theory.

The transient problem of finite cracks with vanishing thickness in an anti-plane strain solid is investigated by finite element method. The infinitesimally thin crack with traction free on both faces of the crack is simulated by the energy-sharing-node technique. The following cases are considered: (a) One finite line crack in a whole space subjected to (i) a concentrated line source and (ii) an inclined incident SH plane wave. (b) Two cracks in a whole space subjected to an inclined incident SH plane wave. Emphasis has been laid on the quantitative evaluation of the dynamic disturbances for the problem in the interference stage, which is generally difficult to be obtained by analytical approaches. The synthetic seismograms for displacements along the crack surfaces, which cover a period up to an instant of time during which the second order scattering from crack tips can be observed, are presented. Snapshots of the scattered displacement field for each case are also displayed so that the generations of the scatterings and the processes of the wave propagations can be clearly visualized. The two-dimensional wave propagation for transient acoustic problem and electromagnetic problem with the same nature of boundaries can be analogously obtained.

Purpose This paper aims to study the influence of the dimension change of bush-pin on the pressure, oil film thickness, temperature rise and traction coefficient in contact zone by using a thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) model for finite line contact. Concretely, the effects of the equivalent curvature radius of the bush and the pin, and the length of the bush are investigated. Design/methodology/approach In this paper, the contact between the bush and pin is simplified as finite line contact. The lubrication state is studied by numerical simulation using steady-state line contact thermal EHL. A constitutive equation Ree–Eyring fluid is used in the calculations. Findings It is found that by selecting an optimal equivalent radius of curvature and prolonging the bush length can improve the lubrication state effectively. Originality/value Under specific working conditions, there exists an optimal equivalent radius to maximize the minimum oil film thickness in the contact zone. The increase of generatrix length will weaken the stress concentration effect in the rounded corner area at both ends of the bush, which can improve the wear resistance of chain. In this paper a characterization of the regular ω-semigroups whose congruence lattice is modular is given. The characterization obtained for such semigroups generalizes the one given by Munn for bisimple ω-semigroups and completes a result of Baird dealing with the modularity of the sublattice of the congruence lattice of a simple regular ω-semigroup consisting of congruences which are either idempotent separating or group congruences.


Recent advances in NMR microscopy based on fundamental physical parameters and experimental factors are discussed. We consider fundamental resolution limits due to molecular diffusion and the experimental system bandwidth, as well as practical resolution limits arising from poor signal-to-noise ratio due to small imaging voxel size and finite line broadening due to signal attenuation brought about by diffusion. Several microscopic imaging pulse sequences are presented and applied to elucidating cellular imaging problems such as the cell lineage patterns in Xenopus laevis embryos. Experimental results obtained with 7.0 T NMR microscopy system are presented.
