This series successfully multitasks as a resource for lesson plan ideas while also teaching instructional theory and pedagogy. With one volume for each of the six frames in ACRL’s Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education, this set is about practical applications of the frames in academic library instruction. Each volume includes complete lesson plans, including handouts and assessment ideas. The plans are grouped by discipline and the beginning of each plan designates the intended population and the learning theory, pedagogy, or instructional strategy used in the lesson. What is missing from these descriptions is whether the lesson is best suited to one-shot or multiple sessions, ideal class size, and how long the lesson takes. While such notations would make it easier for readers looking for ideas to quickly implement, this series is better suited to readers looking for clever concepts that they can adapt to their needs.

RESUMO Apresenta as principais estratégias para avaliação dos conteúdos das fontes de informação. Utiliza as noções de competência em informação (American Library Association e Dudziak), fontes de informação (Cunha e Tomáel) e desinformação (Fallis e Volkoff) para o desenvolvimento do referencial teórico. Indica a metodologia exploratória a partir de uma revisão de literatura orientada para que o problema apresentado seja mais explícito no campo de estudos da informação. Apresenta como resultados a indicação de três critérios para avaliação de fontes de informação para que sejam evitados os compartilhamentos e usos de desinformações (e seus respectivos impactos negativos) na prática informacional. Por fim, evidencia que a necessidade de avaliação é essencial para a solidariedade na produção e para o uso crítico e ético da informação.Palavras-chave: Competência em Informação; Fontes de Informação; Desinformação.ABSTRACT The paper presents the main strategies to evaluate the contents of information sources. It uses the notions of information literacy (American Library Information and Dudziak), information sources (Cunha and Tomaél) and disinformation (Fallis and Volkoff) to develop the theoretical framework. It indicates the exploratory methodology based on a literature review in order to explicit the problem presented in the field of information studies. It presents, as results, the indication of three criteria for the evaluation of information sources to avoid sharing and using disinformation (and their negative impacts) in the information practice. In 1989, the American Library Association issued its Presidential Committee on Information Literacy: Final Report, which was essentially a call-to-arms outlining the necessity of teaching our young people to be information savvy in an information-rich society. This chapter, written from the perspective of two librarians, will argue that a quicker pedagogical revision is needed for teaching undergraduates the concepts of credibility of information created in an era of computer mediated communication. Reviewing some of the major developments that have altered the understanding of credible information, this chapter encourages educators to adopt new approaches to teaching students about the credibility of CMC-generated sources.

O presente artigo tem como objetivo formular uma crítica à noção de “competência” que subjaz o conceito de “competência em informação” (information literacy), mediante uma análise da noção institucional do termo em perspectiva histórica – desde a sua proposição em documento governamental norte-americano, na década de 1970, até seu desenvolvimento por instituições internacionais relevantes para os campos da Biblioteconomia e da Ciência da Informação, como a Association for College and Research Libraries (divisão da American Library Association) e a International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. No plano metodológico, a pesquisa é desenvolvida por meio de: a) um diagnóstico diacrônico, observando o contexto de formação dos discursos institucionais que futuramente virão desenvolver o conceito; e b) um diagnóstico sincrônico, orientado para a análise crítica do contexto de aparecimento da “competência em informação” como categoria independente. A partir desta avaliação, que atende a um dos principais objetivos dos estudos de “competência crítica em informação” (critical information literacy), busca-se contribuir para uma reflexão que permita a superação dos obstáculos semânticos que instrumentalizam os preceitos da competência em informação (muitas vezes com vista a adaptá-los a interesses governamentais e mercadológicos) e a conquista dos horizontes ético-políticos de liberdade e autonomia informacional de indivíduos e comunidades no regime de informação contemporâneo.
