This study examines teaching methodologies used by composition instructors in a private university in Kenya where composition is taught to all undergraduate students. The study adopted a qualitative approach in the form of narrative inquiry to explore challenging topics in teaching and learning argumentation, methodological interventions, instructors' use of technology, and to suggest strategies for addressing problem areas. Purposive sampling was adopted, resulting in narratives from three experienced course instructors. Learner-centred approaches were prevalent, especially in addressing challenging topics such as formulation of claims, supporting arguments with evidence, recognising fallacies and appeals, and documentation of sources of information.

Professor Coutu is to be commended for synthesizing in a brief paper a great many insights bearing on the management of teaching, research and extension in the next decade. As a discussant, I feel much as a blind man trying to describe the Taj Mahal—I can only reach so high. The future is as yet unknown and any predictions are at best pretty wild guesses. But there are insights gleaned from the past that can guide us in anticipating the future. In developing his anticipations, Professor Coutu drew upon several important sources of information, including his personal observations on the status of the university, his recent research on organizational structures used by the University of North Carolina system to manage research, and the Carnegie Commission report on higher education.

The data of sources of information on the organization of physical education in higher education institutions are analyzed and generalized. Problems in the system of organization of physical education concerning the normative-legal base, material-technical, theoretical-methodical and staffing are revealed. Today, higher education is being reformed and integration into the world space, higher education institutions have been given autonomy, which provides for independent decision-making on the organization of the educational process. In such conditions, there is a situation when in some educational programs is no educational component of "Physical Education". In some higher education, physical education classes are held only during the first- second year of study. It is proposed to conduct extracurricular classes lasting two hours twice or thrice a week in extracurricular time. One of the directions of improving the system of organization of physical education is the use of a personalized approach based on individual morphofunctional, psychophysiological features, including personal motives and situational factors.
