Neutrino-pair bremsstrahlung rate is calculated in the framework of the Weinberg-Salam theory for the dense matter relevant to the interior of white dwarfs and neutron stars. Ionic correlations both in the liquid state and in the bcc lattice state have been taken into account accurately. It is found that the ionic correlation in the liquid state reduces the neutrino-pair bremsstrahlung rate typically by a factor 2–20 depending on the element and temperature. It is also found that accurate inclusion of the Debye-Waller factor reduces the neutrino-pair bremsstrahlung rate in the lattice state typically by a factor 2.

Interpretation of electron microscope images of crystalline lattice defects can be greatly aided by computer simulation of theoretical contrast from continuum models of such defects in thin foils. Several computer programs exist at the present time, but none are sufficiently general to permit their use as an aid in the identification of the range of defect types encountered in electron microscopy. This paper presents progress in the development of a more general computer program for this purpose which eliminates a number of restrictions contained in other programs. In particular, the program permits a variety of foil geometries and defect types to be simulated.The conventional approximation of non-interacting columns is employed for evaluation of the two-beam dynamical scattering equations by a piecewise solution of the Howie-Whelan equations.

The Impact

Abstract We present the production cross section for a lepton-neutrino pair at the Large Hadron Collider computed at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N3LO) in QCD perturbation theory. We compute the partonic coefficient functions of a virtual W± boson at this order. We then use these analytic functions to study the progression of the perturbative series in different observables. In particular, we investigate the impact of the newly obtained corrections on the inclusive production cross section of W± bosons, as well as on the ratios of the production cross sections for W+, W− and/or a virtual photon. Finally, we present N3LO predictions for the charge asymmetry at the LHC.
