Let W = G ≀ H be the wreath product of G by an n-generator abelian group H. We prove that every element of W′ is a product of at most n+2 commutators, and every element of W2 is a product of at most 3n+4 squares in W. This generalizes our previous result.

We recover the wreath product X ≔ Sym 2(ℂ2/± 1) as a transversal slice to a nilpotent orbit in 𝔰𝔭6. By using deformations of Springer resolutions, we construct a symplectic deformation of symplectic resolutions of X.

Let G be a group with a normal subgroup H whose index is a power of a prime p, and which is nilpotent with exponent a power of p. Gilbert Baumslag (Proc. Cambridge Philos. Soc. 55 (1959), 224–231) has shown that such a group is nilpotent; the main result of this paper is an upper bound on its nilpotency class in terms of parameters of H and G/H. It is shown that this bound is attained whenever G is a wreath product and H its base group.A descending central series, here called the cpp-series, is involved in these calculations more closely than is the lower central series, and the class of the wreath product in terms of this series is also found.Two tools used to obtain the main result, namely a useful basis for a finite p-group and a result about the augmentation ideal of the integer group ring of a finite p-group, may have some independent interest. The main result is applied to the construction of some two-generator groups of large nilpotency class with exponents 8, 9, and 25.

Let $(X,d)$ be a metric space. A non-empty subset $A$ of the set $X$ is called resolving set of the metric space $(X,d)$ if for two arbitrary not equal points $u,v$ from $X$ there exists an element $a$ from $A$, such that $d(u,a) \neq d(v,a)$. The smallest of cardinalities of resolving subsets of the set $X$ is called the metric dimension $md(X)$ of the metric space $(X,d)$. In general, finding the metric dimension is an NP-hard problem. In this paper, metric dimension for metric transform and wreath product of metric spaces are provided. It is shown that the metric dimension of an arbitrary metric space is equal to the metric dimension of its metric transform.

International audience We construct a poset from a simple acyclic digraph together with a valuation on its vertices, and we compute the values of its Möbius function. We show that the weak order on Coxeter groups $A$<sub>$n-1$</sub>, $B$<sub>$n$</sub>, $Ã$<sub>$n$</sub>, and the flag weak order on the wreath product &#8484;<sub>$r$</sub> &#8768; $S$<sub>$n$</sub> introduced by Adin, Brenti and Roichman (2012), are special instances of our construction. We conclude by briefly explaining how to use our work to define quasi-symmetric functions, with a special emphasis on the $A$<sub>$n-1$</sub> case, in which case we obtain the classical Stanley symmetric function. On construit une famille d’ensembles ordonnés à partir d’un graphe orienté, simple et acyclique munit d’une valuation sur ses sommets, puis on calcule les valeurs de leur fonction de Möbius respective. On montre que l’ordre faible sur les groupes de Coxeter $A$<sub>$n-1$</sub>, $B$<sub>$n$</sub>, $Ã$<sub>$n$</sub>, ainsi qu’une variante de l’ordre faible sur les produits en couronne &#8484;<sub>$r$</sub> &#8768; $S$<sub>$n$</sub> introduit par Adin, Brenti et Roichman (2012), sont des cas particuliers de cette construction. On conclura en expliquant brièvement comment ce travail peut-être utilisé pour définir des fonction quasi-symétriques, en insistant sur l’exemple de l’ordre faible sur $A$<sub>$n-1$</sub> où l’on obtient les séries de Stanley classiques.

Let P be the set of all primes, Zn a cyclic group of order n and X wr Zn the regular wreath product of the group X with Zn. A Fitting class F is said to be X-quasinormal (or quasinormal in a class of groups X ) if F ⊆ X, p is a prime, groups G ∈ F and G wr Zp ∈ X, then there exists a natural number m such that G m wr Zp ∈ F. If  X is the class of all soluble groups, then F is normal Fitting class. In this paper we generalize the well-known theorem of Blessenohl and Gaschütz in the theory of normal Fitting classes. It is proved, that the intersection of any set of nontrivial X-quasinormal Fitting classes is a nontrivial X-quasinormal Fitting class. In particular, there exists the smallest nontrivial X-quasinormal Fitting class. We confirm a generalized version of the Lockett conjecture (in particular, the Lockett conjecture) about the structure of a Fitting class for the case of X-quasinormal classes, where X is a local Fitting class of partially soluble groups.

We present a useful new characterization of the automorphisms of the regular wreath product group of a finite cyclic -group by a finite cyclic -group, for any prime , and we discuss an application. We also present a short new proof, based on representation theory, for determining the order of the automorphism group Aut(), where is the regular wreath product of a finite cyclic -group by an arbitrary finite -group.
