Abstract A description is provided for Physoderma leproides. Information is included on the disease caused by the organism, its transmission, geographical distribution, and hosts. HOSTS: Beta vulgaris and B. vulgaris var. rapacea. DISEASE: Parasitic in sugarbeet causing small galls on leaves, leaf stalks and stems and enormous galls on roots. GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America (CMI Map 491, ed. 1, 1973). TRANSMISSION: Presumably by dissemination of resting sporangia which may germinate to rekase motile spores under natural conditions.
