Numerical modeling of the problem of dam monitoring by the Electrical Resistivity Tomography method is carried out. The mathematical model is based on integral equations with a partial Fourier transform with respect to one spatial variable. It is assumed that the measurement line is located across the dam longitude. To approximate the shape of the dam surface, the Radial Basic Functions method is applied. The influence of locations of the water-dam, dam-basement, basement-leakage boundaries with respect to the sounding installation, which is partially placed under the headwater, is studied. Numerical modeling is carried out for the following varied parameters: 1) water level at the headwater; 2) the height of the leak; 3) the depth of the leak; 4) position of the supply electrode; 5) water level and leaks positions are changing simultaneously. Modeling results are presented in the form of apparent resistivity curves, as it is customary in geophysical practice.

Abstract The simple digital filters are not sufficient for digital modeling of systems with distributed parameters. It is necessary to apply more complex digital filters. In this work, a set of filters, called the digital function filters, is proposed. It consists of digital filters, which are obtained from causal and stable filters through some function transformation. In this paper, for several basic functions: exponential, logarithm, square root and the real power of input filter, the recursive algorithms of the digital function filters have been determined The digital function filters of exponential type can be obtained from direct recursive formulas. Whereas, the other function filters, such as the logarithm, the square root and the real power, require using the implicit recursive formulas. Some applications of the digital function filters for the analysis and synthesis of systems with lumped and distributed parameters (a long line, phase shifters, infinite ladder circuits) are given as well.

Structurally, the book includes 59 short chapters, United in 14 thematic blocks. They include such traditional sections as: the concept, essence and content of management; basic approaches to the study of the history of management; basic functions of management; connecting processes; basics of conflict management; organizational culture; management of organizational changes; social responsibility and ethics of business organizations; management consulting, etc. But the form of presentation of the material is unusual – it is a programmed textbook, designed mainly for independent work of the student and equipped with a system of constant self-control.

Where nature protection is concerned, the expert assessment of an environment poses questions about its natural and cultural heritage and its potential, about how representative it may be, about biodiversity in all its facets and about its development or potential threats to its existence. Although the forest was the dominant habitat in the original natural European landscape, for a long time nature protection has devoted too little attention to it. There are diverse threats and deficiencies. However, in the Swiss forests positive developments are discernible. Thus nature protection is one of the basic functions of the forest, nature reserves are being created, the area of the forest is increasing, as are reserves of deadwood, and greater importance is being given to regeneration suited to the site. Nevertheless much remains to be done to really achieve the goal of biodiversity and sus-tainability. For this purpose segregative and integrative measures are required. Since diversity needs surface area, in the first place it must be possible to set aside as forest reserves a quarter of the total forest area, spread over the whole country and preferably as natural forest reserves, in order to start the process of a long-term restoration to the natural state. Here the conservation of natural self-regulating processes supersedes classical nature protection. With a series of further integrative measures, biodiversity must also be promoted over the whole remaining forest area and in the areas of transition to other habitats. An abundance of varied structures is the key to diversity of species. A more courageous attitude to wilderness and “untidiness” when dealing with the forest is to be recommended. Nature experiences in wilderness areas give the population the possibility of discovering diversity and natural processes and encourage respect for the innumerable other species and habitats.

Memory in the nature of primitive features and basic functions, which plays an important role in promoting all the developments from ancient times to nowadays, is the most fundamental form of human nature. This paper will, from both narrow dimensions and generalized dimensions hypothesize and analyze the connection between memory and human nature or our developments; the original feature and function of memory, thereby, will be revealed.

Abstract Background The deltoid is a large triangular muscle at the shoulder. It attaches proximally to the clavicle, acromion and scapula, while distally it attaches to the lateral deltoid tuberosity. Ruptures are rare, and the literature only reports cases of proximal detachment. In this article, we report the first case of distal traumatic deltoid muscle detachment and its successful management. Case A young female sustained a traumatic injury following a Jet Ski accident with loss of consciousness. A complete distal rupture of the deltoid muscle was diagnosed after the basic functions were regained and a thorough musculoskeletal examination could be conducted. A conservative approach helped her to regain an acceptable shoulder function, but there was persistent pain upon activity and cosmetic scarring. The patient underwent surgical reconstruction. Postoperatively, she recovered satisfactorily. Discussion Distal detachment of the deltoid muscle is rare. The choice for surgical treatment may be undertaken based on several factors including functional status and patient-based assessment.

This paper aims to synthesize hybrid materials with high pollutant-uptake capacity and low costbased based on Luffa cylindrica (L.C) and different percentage of Zn2+ in the presence and absence of alternating current (AC). Physico-chemical, morphological and structural characterizations of the hybrid materials were performed by Boehm method, point zero charge (pHpzc), infrared characterizations (IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy–dispersive spectroscopyand and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The efficiency of the designed hybrid materials was optimized based on their performance in water depollution. Methylene blue (MB) and industrial textile wastewater were the investigated pollutants models. IR characterizations confirmed the fixation of Zn2+ onto the L.C by the creation of Zn-OH, Zn-O and Zn-O-C bonds. Boehm titration showed that the fixation of Zn2+ onto L.C is accompanied by an increase of the basic functions of its surface and subsequently an increase in the pHpzc. SEM results confirmed the fixation of Zn2+ onto the L.C coupling AC with biosorption showed an increase in the adsorbed amount of MB and speed when adding the 4% of Zn2+ compared to the pure L.C the Qm shifted from 3.22 to 9.84 and 8.81 mg/g, respectively, for hybrid materials synthesized under AC, in absence of AC and pure L.C.

A non-iterative design method about high order intermittent mechanisms is presented. The mathematical principle is that a compound function produced by two basic functions, and then one to three order derivatives of the compound function are all zeroes when one order derivative of each basic function is zero at the same moment. The design method is that a combined mechanism is constructed by six bars; the displacement functions of the front four-bar and back four-bar mechanisms are separately built, let one order derivatives of two displacement functions separately be zero at the same moment, and then get geometrical relationships and solution on the intermittent mechanism. A design example shows that this method is simpler and transmission characteristics are better than optimization method.
