The most widely used formalisms to describe anharmonicity and disorder in crystallographic structure refinements are presented and their properties are reviewed. Their limitations are discussed and their range of applications is indicated. A comparative study on the lattice anharmonicity in Zns using different models is presented. The importance of measuring Bragg intensity data sufficiently far in reciprocal space is stressed. Some indications concerning the interpretation of the results are given and the decorrelation of electronic and atomic deformations is briefly discussed.

This paper presents a comparative study of differences in energy consumption while applying 2004 and 2014 releases of the CEN/TR 13201 standard for lighting designs. Street lighting optimal design and its optimization is discussed. To provide a reliable comparison, optimal designs for a given representative set of streets were calculated. The optimization was performed by newly developed software. As a test bed, a set of streets was selected with varying physical and traffic characteristics. The energy consumption was measured on the same set of streets both statically, which assumed the same lighting levels throughout night, and with a dynamic control, which adjusted lighting based on traffic intensity. For experiments with the dynamic control, one year of traffic intensity data were used. The findings confirm increased economical impact of dynamic control for the 2014 standard, which results in significant energy saving.

The structures of t-butylaminotriphenylphosphonium iodine dibromide and iodine dichloride were determined by Raman spectroscopy and Xray crystallographic structure analysis. The iodine dibromide [IBr2]− species was assigned a centrosymmetric nature, whereas the iodine dichloride [ICl2]− possesses a non-centrosymmetric structure.

The potential of digital image processing hardware to record intensity data at video rates has resulted in a new approach for data collection. Efforts were aimed at evaluating isochromatic and isoclinic fringe orders quantitatively by processing the intensity data recorded. These methodologies have come to be known as phase-shifting techniques. The various phase-shifting algorithms in photoelasticity are surveyed and a comparative study is done. The use of Jones calculus to understand these methodologies is brought out. An attempt has been made to identify the reason for loss of accuracy in evaluating the field parameters in stress concentration zones.
