A review of the genus Eriogenes Meyrick (Lepidoptera : Elachistidae : Stenomatinae) in Australia

The genus Eriogenes Meyrick, with three species, is reviewed. A lectotype of Phanaca cossoides Butler is designated and the species placed in Eriogenes as a senior subjective synonym of E. meyricki Duckworth. The known species of Eriogenes Meyrick, E. mesogypsa Meyrick and E. cossoides both described from Papua New Guinea, are redescribed based on Australian material and E. mesogypsa is recorded from Australia for the first time. A third, and new, species from Australia is described here as E. nielseni, sp. nov. Females of Eriogenes were previously unknown but females of two species are described here. Characters to differentiate Eriogenes and Agriophara Rosenstock are discussed.

Three new Indo-West Pacific species of pinnotherid crabs are described, one each of Arcotheres, Buergeres and Nepinnotheres. Arcotheres pollus, described from Paway Island, Mergui Archipelago, is most similar to A. boninensis (Stimpson, 1858), A. pernicola (Bürger, 1895) and A. purpureus (Alcock, 1900), sharing a transversely ovate carapace and long, slender, almost styliform dactyli of P4 and 5 that are about twice the length of those of P2 and 3. Buergeres choprai, described from Papua New Guinea, is most similar to B. deccanesis (Chopra, 1931) from eastern India but differentiated by segment proportions and setation of the walking legs. Buergeres tenuipes (Bürger, 1895) is synonymised with B. ortmanni (Bürger, 1895), which is also reported for the first time from Indonesia. A male of an undetermined species of Buergeres from the Philippines, possibly B. ortmanni, is figured and described, documenting the gonopod morphology in Buergeres for the first time. A key to the species of Buergeres based on females is provided. Nepinnotheres fulvia sp. nov. is also described from Papua New Guinea, and resembles N. cardii (Bürger, 1895) from the Philippines and Malaysia but can be distinguished by features of the chelipeds and maxilliped 3.

The assassin bugs of the genus Ptilocerus Gray, 1831 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Reduviidae: Holoptilinae) occurring in the Australian Region are reviewed for the first time, resulting in the description of two new species, viz., P. spangenbergi sp. nov. (Queensland and Northern Territory, Australia) and P. papuensis sp. nov. (Papua New Guinea). The latter species differs from P. fuscus Gray, 1831 (the type-species of genus Ptilocerus) in a couple of major external morphological characters, hence its tentative placement in the genus Ptilocerus is discussed. A key for the separation of the two new species is provided.

Gressitocorishenryi (Deraeocorinae, Deraeocorini) is described as a new species on the basis of the female holotype from Syoubri vill(age), Arfak Mounts, Doberai Peninsula, Papua Barat, Indonesia. Additional data on distribution are provided for 17 species of Cylapinae, Deraeocorinae, Mirinae, Orthotylinae and Phylinae. Trigonotylustenuis is cited for the first time from Papua New Guinea.

The status of the genus Neorthostigma Belokobylskij, 1998 is re-established as a result of additional morphological studies. A new species, N. braetisp. nov., from Papua New Guinea is described and illustrated. Aspilota brachyclypeataFischer 1978 is transferred to Neorthostigma, hence N. brachyclypeata (Fischer, 1978), comb. nov. A new synonym is suggested, Aspilota macrops Stelfox & Graham, 1951 = Neorthostigma eoum Belokobylskij, 1998, syn. nov.; A. macrops is transferred to Neorthostigma. This genus is additionally recorded in the Western Palaearctic (Norway) and Australasian (Papua New Guinea) regions for the first time. A key for the determination of the three known species of Neorthostigma is provided.

The supertribe Cephenniitae and the tribe Cephenniini are for the first time recorded from the Bismarck Archipelago, Papua New Guinea. Cephennodes (s. str.) mussauinsularis sp. n. and Cephennomicrus manusianus sp. n. are described, based on specimens collected respectively on Mussau Island (New Ireland Province) and Manus Island (Manus Province).

This paper represents a revision of the tribe Linnaemyini in Australia but also includes the description oftwo new species of Chaetophthalmus Brauer & Bergenstamm from Papua New Guinea, being the first species of this genus to be described from outside Australia. Apalpus Malloch is regarded as a synonym of Chaetophthalmus and a key is provided to separate Chaetophthalmus from Linnaemya Robineau- Desvoidy. Keys are also provided to species of Chaetophthalmus (21 species) and Linnaemya (five species). Three new synonymies are proposed in Chaetophthalmus: C. biseriatus Malloch = C. dorsalis (Malloch); C, nudistylum (Macquart) = C. bicolor (Macquart); and C, pallipes (Curran) = C. bicolor (Macquart). Eleven new species are described in Chaetophthalmus: alienus; collessi; flavocaudus; flavopilosus; formosioides; fullerae; innotatus; longimentum; occlusus; setosus; tonnoiri. Three new species are described in Linnaemya: metocha; sarcophagoides; setulosa; L. vulpinoides (Baranov) is recorded from Australia for the first time. Descriptions of the first-instar larva of some species of both Chaetopthalmus and Linnaemya are provided.

The genus Cancricepon Giard & Bonnier, 1887 is recorded for the first time from Australia, the Maldives, Papua New Guinea and Taiwan. Four species of Cancricepon are reported here, and two are new to science. Cancricepon choprae (Nierstrasz & Brender à Brandis, 1925) is reported from the Gulf of Mexico on the Florida coast, infesting a new host, Micropanope cf. sculptipes Stimpson, 1871. Cancricepon castroi n. sp. is described from Australia, the Maldives, Japan and Papua New Guinea parasitizing coral crabs of the family Trapeziidae. Cancricepon cf. multituberosum An, Yu & Williams, 2012 is recorded from a specimen of Leptodius affinis (De Haan, 1835) from Taiwan. Specimens previously misidentified as C. choprae parasitizing Scalopidia spinosipes Stimpson, 1858, from China are described as C. beibusinus n. sp. All known hosts and localities of species of Cancricepon are summarized, and a key to the species in the genus is provided. The similarities between species of Cancricepon and the type species of Trapezicepon Bonnier, 1900, are discussed and Trapezicepon thalamitae Markham, 1985, is transferred to Scyracepon Tattersall, 1905.

The mirid tribe Saturniomirini is redescribed, based on material from Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. One new genus and ten new species of Saturniomirini are described: Kallosmiris gen. n., Kallosmiris avena sp. n. , Kallosmiris geminus sp. n., Kallosmiris solis sp. n., Cheesmaniella australiensis sp. n., Garainamiris ganymedis sp. n., Trilaccus forrestae sp. n., Trilaccus luteoscutellatus sp. n., Trilaccus mica sp. n., Trilaccus mimeticus sp. n. and Trilaccus stewartensis sp. n., Cheesmaniella (Cheesmaniella australiensis sp. n.) and Garainamiris (Garainamiris ganymedis sp. n.) are recorded from Australia for the first time. All existing Saturniomirini genera, including their type species and previously described species are redescribed as follows: Cheesmaniella Carvalho, 1984, Garainamiris Carvalho, 1981, Imogen Kirkaldy, 1905, Saturniomiris Kirkaldy, 1902, Synthlipsis Kirkaldy, 1908 and Trilaccus Horváth, 1902. Four previously described species (Garainamiris antennatus Carvalho, 1981, Synthlipsis ternatensis (Distant, 1904), Trilaccus marginatus (Distant, 1904) and Trilaccus perversus (Reuter, 1905)) were not examined directly but photographs of types were available for observation. A dichotomous key to Saturniomirini taxa, colour habitus photographs, scanning electron micrographs, illustrations of male genitalia and distribution maps are provided. A phylogenetic analysis of morphological data was conducted, resulting in the Saturniomirini and all included genera recovered as monophyletic taxa.

Afraflacilla is reinstated and newly recorded from Australia and Papua New Guinea. Diagnoses and figures of six new species (A. courti, A. vestjensi, A. grayorum, A. huntorurn, A. yeni and A. stridulator) are presented. Cytaea infrastriata (Keyserling) is transferred to Evarcha, and Habrocestum flavipes Keyserling is synonymised with Evarcha infrastriata (Keyserling). Evarcha is reported from Australia for the first time. Remarks on relationships, biology and distribution of both genera are given. Abstract:Phylloblastia inexpectata Sérus., Coppins & Lücking is a newly described foliicolous lichen, known from England, Scotland, Southern Italy and Madeira. It is distinguished from similar and related species by the absence of isidia and the smaller size of its ascospores. Phylloblastia pocsii is reported from Papua New Guinea for the first time.
