[ Ru (NH3)3(OH2)3](CF3SO3)3 was prepared from RuCl3(NH3)3 by using trifluoromethanesulfonic acid and Ag2CO3, and characterized by microanalytical , electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques. The complex is soluble in water and in many organic solvents and is a convenient starting material for the preparation of triammine complexes. [RU(NH3)3(OH2)3]3+ has pKa1 3.770.04 and pKa2 6.930.04 at 25°C, and an E½ of -120 mV at pH 1.5 and -190 mV at pH 5. In the u.v . spectrum λmax is at 251 nm (є 1150 mol-1 dm3 cm-1) in 0.1 M H+ and at 296 nm (є 1760 mol-1 dm3 cm-1) at pH 5. [ Ru (NH3)4(OH2)2]3+ has pKa1 3.960.4 and pKa2 7.090.04 and E1/2 of -140mV at pH 1 and -200mV at pH 5. In the u.v. spectrum λmax is at 254 nm (є 1200 mol-1 dm3 cm-1) in 0.1 M H+ and at 296 nm (є 2650 mol-1 dm3 cm-1) at pH 5. [ Ru (NH3)3(OH2)3]2+ can be prepared in situ by reduction with Zn(Hg) or H2/Pt black; at high pH, the reduction proceeds via a blue mixed-oxidation-state intermediate.

AbstractTwo meta-xylyl linked tetrakis-benzimidazolium salts (L1-L2) as multidentate ligands and two respective silver complexes (C1 and C2) were synthesized. A multistep reaction was done at room temperature, starting with simple benzimidazole and alkyl halides, going through precursors and salt formation by reflux and finally in situ deprotonation of tetrabenzimidazolium salts with Ag2O to yield respective tetra-nuclear Ag(I)-N-heterocyclic Carbene (NHC) complexes. Propyl and butyl groups were bonded at the terminal positions of tetra-azolium open chain salts. Characterization of compounds was done by analytical and spectroscopic techniques. On the basis of spectroscopic data, a chemical structure with open chains having four Ag(I) ions sandwiched between NHC layers was established. Potential of synthesized complexes (C1 & C2) for wound contraction was evaluated and compared with standard wound contraction gel. Percentage wound contraction of both complexes was found very close to that of standard drug used in parallel.

AbstractSingle-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) and multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) were functionalized with 3,4-diaminobenzoic acid via “direct” Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction in PPA/P2O5 to afford ortho-diamino-functionalized SWCNT (DIF-SWCNT) and MWCNT (DIF-MWCNT). The resultant DIF-SWCNT and DIF-MWCNT showed improved solubility and dispersibility. To improve interfacial adhesion between CNT and polymer matrix, the grafting of ABPBI onto the surface of DIF-SWCNT (10 wt%) or DIF-MWCNT (10 wt%) was conducted by simple in-situ polymerization of AB monomer, 3,4-diaminobenzoic acid dihydrochloride, in PPA. The resultant ABPBI-g-MWCNT and ABPBI-g-SWCNT showed improved the mechanical and electrical properties.

Aluminophosphate molecular sieve and Ni(II)-containing APO-5 materials were synthesized hydrothermally and characterized by various analytical and spectroscopic techniques. It indicates that the nickel ions with a divalent oxidation state can incorporate into the tetrahedral coordination in mesoporous aluminophosphate very well. The better crystallizing temperature is explored. A stronger crystalline form is obtained with the addition of HF. Further, microporous aluminophosphate molecular sieves and Ni(II) ions remain in a tetrahedral geometry even after calcination at 550 °C.
