Formic acid reacts with iron(II) and iron(III) chlorides to give FeCl(OOCH),HCOOH and FeCl2(OOCH),2H2O at low temperatures and Fe(OOCH)2,2HCOOH and FeCl(OOCH)2,H2O at higher temperatures respectively. These compounds have been characterized by elementary analyses, infrared, thermal and magnetic susceptibility measurements.

Magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity have been measured on UCuGa, UCu1+xSn1−x, (x=0 and 0.1), and UPdAl. The first two compounds, crystallizing in the hexagonal CaIn2-type structure, show at low temperatures an antiferromagnetic ordering probably with complex structures. UPdAl, which adopts the orthorhombic TiNiSi-type structure, was found to be a weakly temperature-dependent paramagnet down to 4.2 K.

Preliminary evidence for the occurrence of high-TC superconductivity in alkali-doped organic materials, such as potassium-doped p-terphenyl (KPT), were recently obtained by magnetic susceptibility measurements and by the opening of a large superconducting gap as measured by ARPES and STM techniques. In this work, KPT samples have been synthesized by a chemical method and characterized by low-temperature Raman scattering and resistivity measurements. Here, we report the occurrence of a resistivity drop of more than 4 orders of magnitude at low temperatures in KPT samples in the form of compressed powder. This fact was interpreted as a possible sign of a broad superconducting transition taking place below 90 K in granular KPT. The granular nature of the KPT system appears to be also related to the 20 K broadening of the resistivity drop around the critical temperature.

Abstract U2Co2InH1.9, synthesized by high-pressure hydrogenation of U2Co2In, crystallizes in the tetragonal structure similar to the parent compound, expanded by 8.4 %. Although U2Co2In is a weak paramagnet, its hydride shows properties suggesting a proximity to the magnetic order. Its magnetic susceptibility exhibits a maximum at T = 2.4 K, ascribed to spin fluctuations. Magnetization at low temperatures goes through a metamagnetic transition between 2 - 3 T. The specific heat characteristics, with a pronounced upturn of Cp/T vs. T at low temperatures which can be fitted using an additional −T 1/2 term, resemble the behaviour of U2Co2Sn. The γ coefficient of the electronic specific heat, reaching 244 mJ mol−1 K−2, is gradually suppressed by high magnetic fields.

The partially substitution of magnetic impurity Ni for Cu in electron-doped superconducting cuprates of Eu2-xCexCu1-yNiyO4+a-d with x = 0.14 and y = 0, 0.01 and 0.02 has been studied in order to investigate the effect of Ni impurity on structure and the value of magnetic moments per unit volume extracted from susceptibility data in under-doped region. Magnetic-susceptibility measurements were carried out at low temperatures down to 2 K. For sample with y = 0, diamagnetic behavior is observed starting from about 9 K. The superconductivity disappeared at y ³ 0.01. The values of magnetic moment in every volume unit decreased with increasing Ni.
