Studies on the application of the quinhydrone electrode in formamide. I. The ionization constant of acetic acid from E.M.F. measurements at 25°
Keyword(s):
The quinhydrone electrode in conjunction with the silver-silver chloride electrode has been used in the cell Ag-AgCl | NaCl(m3), CH3CO2Na(m2), CH3CO2H(m1), QH2-Q | Pt to redetermine the ionization constant of acetic acid in formamide. The ionization constant is found to be 1.096 x 10-7 and is in good agreement with the value 1.230 x 10-7 obtained from the study of the cell Pt, H2|CH3CO2H(m1), CH3CO2Na(m2), NaCl(m3)|AgCl-Ag The results confirm the reversibility and reproducibility of the quinhydrone electrode in formamide.
