The reaction of AgCF3CO2 with nitrilotriacetate (NTA) yields the three-dimensional silver(i) coordination polymer {Ag3[N(CH2COO)3]}n 1 which was characterized by means of elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy as well as X-ray diffraction. The single crystal structure shows that the NTA3– anions act as unusual heptadentate 13-coordination agents and the silver(i) atoms exhibit various coordination numbers in the range 3–6.

A metal coordination polymer, {[Mn2Mo(CN)8(C12H8N6)(CH3CN)2(H2O)2]·2H2O}n, has been synthesized by the reaction of Mn(ClO4)2·6H2O with 3,6-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4,5-tetrazine (bptz) and (Bu3N)3[Mo(CN)8] at room temperature. The polymer was characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and X-ray diffraction, and the magnetic properties were also investigated. The X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the compound is a new three-dimensional coordination polymer with a PtS-type network. Magnetic investigation shows antiferromagnetic coupling between adjacent Mn2+cations.

A one-dimensional cyanide-bridged coordination polymer, poly[[aquadi-μ-cyanido-κ4C:N-hexacyanido-κ6C-(dimethylformamide-κO)bis(3,4,7,8-tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline-κ2N,N′)terbium(III)molybdate(V)] 4.5-hydrate], [MoTb(CN)8(C16H16N2)2(C3H7NO)(H2O)]·4.5H2O}n, has been prepared and characterized through IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound consists of one-dimensional chains in which cationic [Tb(tmphen)2(DMF)(H2O)]3+(tmphen is 3,4,7,8-tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline) and anionic [MoV(CN)8]3−units are linked in an alternating fashion through bridging cyanide ligands. Neighbouring chains are connected by three types of hydrogen bonds (O—H...O, O—H...N and C—H...O) and by π–π interactions to form a three-dimensional supramolecular structure. In addition, magnetic investigations show that ferromagnetic interactions exist in the compound.

A new nickel(II) saccharinate (sac) complex containing <em>N</em>,<em>N</em>′-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine (bishydeten), [Ni(bishydeten)2](sac)2, has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The title complex consists of a [Ni(bishydeten)2]2+ cation and two sac anions. In the complex cation, the nickel(II) ion is coordinated by two neutral bishydeten ligands, leading to a distorted octahedral NiN4O2 coordination, while both sac anions remain outside the coordination sphere. In the crystal, the complex cations and sac anions are connected by an extensive network of N–H∙∙∙N, N–H∙∙∙O, O–H∙∙∙O and C–H∙∙∙O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional supramolecular lattice.

A new calcium coordination polymer [Ca(HL-MA)]n(H3L-MA = L-malic acid) has been solvothermally synthesized. The structure of the newly synthesized complex has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and further characterized by elemental analysis, reflectance UV-Vis & IR spectra, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The single crystal structure analysis showed that the complex forms three-dimensional framework. The new Ca(II) complex has displayed very high thermal stability which was inferred from TGA and PXRD results. As far as the optical property of the new complex is concerned, the complex emitted its own characteristic sensitized luminescence.

Two isostructural diarsenates, SrZnAs2O7(strontium zinc diarsenate), (I), and BaCuAs2O7[barium copper(II) diarsenate], (II), have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The three-dimensional open-framework crystal structure consists of corner-sharingM2O5(M2 = Zn or Cu) square pyramids and diarsenate (As2O7) groups. Each As2O7group shares its five corners with five differentM2O5square pyramids. The resulting framework delimits two types of tunnels aligned parallel to the [010] and [100] directions where the large divalent nine-coordinatedM1 (M1 = Sr or Ba) cations are located. The geometrical characteristics of theM1O9,M2O5and As2O7groups of known isostructural diarsenates, adopting the general formulaM1IIM2IIAs2O7(M1II= Sr, Ba, Pb;M2II= Mg, Co, Cu, Zn) and crystallizing in the space groupP21/n, are presented and discussed.

A novel metalorganic coordination polymer, namely [Co3(bpd)5.5(NCS)6(NH3)]n2H2O (1) (bpd=1,4-bis (4-pyridyl)-2,3-diaza-1,3-butadiene), has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, infrared spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 presents 2D[3,4,-connected 3-nodal net with the point symbol (4268210)(4462)(8210). In addition, four identical 2D single nets is interlocked with each other in parallel, thus directly leading to the formation of a polycatenated layer (2D2D).

AbstractThe cyano-bridged heteronuclear coordination polymer of zinc(II)/nickel(II) has been prepared by N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-ethylendiamine (hydet-en), alternatively named 2-(2-aminoethylamino)-ethanol and characterised by IR and thermal analysis. In the bimetallic complex, the decomposition of hydet-en ligands is seen to be endothermic whereas that of the cyano ligands is found to be exothermic. The crystal structure of the complex has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal structure of the zinc(II)-nickel(II) complex consists of a one-dimensional polymeric chain –Zn(hydet-en)

We have developed magnetically oriented microcrystal array (MOMA) technique that enables single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses from microcrystalline powder. In this method, microcrystals suspended in a UV-curable monomer matrix are there-dimensionally aligned by special rotating magnetic field, followed by consolidation of the matrix by photopolymerization. From thus achieved MOMAs, we have been succeeded in crystal structure analysis for some substances [1, 2]. Though MOMA method is an effective technique, it has some problems as follows: in a MOMA, the alignment is deteriorated during the consolidation process. In addition, the sample microcrystals cannot be recovered from a MOMA. To overcome these problems, we performed an in-situ X-ray diffraction measurement using a three-dimensional magnetically oriented microcrystal suspension (3D MOMS) of L-alanine. An experimental setting of the in-situ X-ray measurement of MOMS is schematically shown in the figure. L-alanine microcrystal suspension was poured into a glass capillary and placed on the rotating unit equipped with a pair of neodymium magnets. Rotating X-ray chopper with 10°-slits was placed between the collimator and the suspension. By using this chopper, it was possible to expose the X-ray only when the rotating MOMS makes a specific direction with respect to the impinging X-ray. This has the same effect as the omega oscillation in conventional single crystal measurement. A total of 22 XRD images of 10° increments from 0° to 220° were obtained. The data set was processed by using conventional software to obtain three-dimensional molecular structure of L-alanine. The structure is in good agreement with that reported for the single crystal. R1 and wR2 were 6.53 and 17.4 %, respectively. RMSD value between the determined molecular structure and the reported one was 0.0045 Å. From this result, we conclude that this method can be effective and practical to be used widely for crystal structure analyses.

The dinuclear nickel(II) complex [Ni2LmClO4] + , where Lm represents a 24-membered macrocyclic hexaaza-dithiophenolate ligand, reacts with 5-(4-pyridyl)tetrazole (PyrCN4H) to give the dinuclear complex [Ni2Lm(PyrCN4)]+ . The new complex was both isolated as perchlorate or tetraphenylborate salts and characterised by elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy. The structure of [Ni2Lm(PyrCN4)]BPh4 ⋅ MeCN was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction, showing that tetrazolate units are in a N2,N3-bridging mode to generate dioctahedral N3Ni(µ-S)2(µ-N4CPyr)NiN3 core.
