The continuous deamination of certain amino acids by the system catecholpolyphenolasetakes place through intensely coloured intermediate compounds.These intermediates are formed by the combination of equimolecular proportionsof o-quinone with amino acids or secondary amines. They are presentedas structural homologues of adrenochrome or hallachrome and probably ofSzent-Gyorgyi's tyrin (1925).

Primary amines, secondary amines and tertiary butyl esters of amino acids are used as nucleophiles with zinc(II) hexadecafluorophthalocyanine to provide mixtures of mono and disubstituted fluorinated phthalocyanines under mild conditions, or polyaminosubstituted phthalocyanines when using the amines as solvents. Diamines give cyclic substituted phthalocyanines, binuclear or trinuclear phthalocyanines or mixtures of both types, depending on the chain length or structure of the diamine.

The aminomethyl-group of porphobilinogen reacted as an alkylating agent in alkaline solution with primary and secondary amines, amino alcohols, certain amino acids, and C-H acidic compounds. The uroporphyrinogen formation competed with these reactions. An elimination-addition mechanism is discussed. The possibility of this reaction acting a part in the biosynthesis of corrin ring formation is indicated.
