Advances in the simulation of offshore heavy lifts from experiences in Bass Strait, Victoria

There has always been a clear need to demonstrate that project critical offshore heavy lifts can be conducted safely, within allowable criteria, for the metocean conditions likely to occur in-field. Extensive guidance is available in the design codes for lifts subsea but, for lifts in air, dynamic analysis of the response of a suspended mass is not fully addressed. Analyses generally yield results that do not agree well with operating experience and cannot easily be assessed against the limited code guidance available. Traditionally, operator skill and experience has thus been relied on to justify the operability of such lifts. Recent experience in engineering the lift of a 500 tonne module onto the Yolla Platform in Bass Strait, Victoria, has further underlined the deficiencies in analytical techniques and approaches available to the industry. This paper presents experience gained from the pre- and post-lift analysis of an instrumented lift operation recently conducted by the mono-hull vessel Sapura 3000 in the challenging environmental conditions of Bass Strait. This analysis was used to demonstrate that the lift could be conducted safely within tight operational constraints, meeting the codified criteria set. Subsequent analysis of data gathered during the lift was used to explore and refine modelling assumptions to aid the engineering of future challenging heavy lifts. The analyses conducted advanced state-of-the-art work in this field for the offshore industry. By enabling numerical techniques for heavy lifts, which are typical of many other offshore operations, safety will be improved, project contingencies can be properly estimated through more accurate prediction of downtime, and cost savings can be achieved by the selection of more effective vessels for the task.

One of the most common tasks in a typical analysis lab is the recording of images. Many analytical techniques (TEM, SEM, and metallography for example) produce images as their primary output. Until recently, the most common method of recording images was by using film. Current PS/2R systems offer very large capacity data storage devices and high resolution displays, making it practical to work with analytical images on PS/2s, thereby sidestepping the traditional film and darkroom steps. This change in operational mode offers many benefits: cost savings, throughput, archiving and searching capabilities as well as direct incorporation of the image data into reports.The conventional way to record images involves film, either sheet film (with its associated wet chemistry) for TEM or PolaroidR film for SEM and light microscopy. Although film is inconvenient, it does have the highest quality of all available image recording techniques. The fine grained film used for TEM has a resolution that would exceed a 4096x4096x16 bit digital image.

Over the past decade, testing and assessing spoken-language interpreting has garnered an increasing amount of attention from stakeholders in interpreter education, professional certification, and interpreting research. This is because in these fields assessment results provide a critical evidential basis for high-stakes decisions, such as the selection of prospective students, the certification of interpreters, and the confirmation/refutation of research hypotheses. However, few reviews exist providing a comprehensive mapping of relevant practice and research. The present article therefore aims to offer a state-of-the-art review, summarizing the existing literature and discovering potential lacunae. In particular, the article first provides an overview of interpreting ability/competence and relevant research, followed by main testing and assessment practice (e.g., assessment tasks, assessment criteria, scoring methods, specificities of scoring operationalization), with a focus on operational diversity and psychometric properties. Second, the review describes a limited yet steadily growing body of empirical research that examines rater-mediated interpreting assessment, and casts light on automatic assessment as an emerging research topic. Third, the review discusses epistemological, psychometric, and practical challenges facing interpreting testers. Finally, it identifies future directions that could address the challenges arising from fast-changing pedagogical, educational, and professional landscapes.

AbstractMultiple trait introgression is the process by which multiple desirable traits are converted from a donor to a recipient cultivar through backcrossing and selfing. The goal of this procedure is to recover all the attributes of the recipient cultivar, with the addition of the specified desirable traits. A crucial step in this process is the selection of parents to form new crosses. In this study, we propose a new selection approach that estimates the genetic distribution of the progeny of backcrosses after multiple generations using information of recombination events. Our objective is to select the most promising individuals for further backcrossing or selfing. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, a case study has been conducted using maize data where our method is compared with state-of-the-art approaches. Simulation results suggest that the proposed method, look-ahead Monte Carlo, achieves higher probability of success than existing approaches. Our proposed selection method can assist breeders to efficiently design trait introgression projects.

In multi/many-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs), to alleviate the degraded convergence pressure of Pareto dominance with the increase in the number of objectives, numerous modified dominance relationships were proposed. Recently, the strengthened dominance relation (SDR) has been proposed, where the dominance area of a solution is determined by convergence degree and niche size (θ¯). Later, in controlled SDR (CSDR), θ¯ and an additional parameter (k) associated with the convergence degree are dynamically adjusted depending on the iteration count. Depending on the problem characteristics and the distribution of the current population, different situations require different values of k, rendering the linear reduction of k based on the generation count ineffective. This is because a particular value of k is expected to bias the dominance relationship towards a particular region on the Pareto front (PF). In addition, due to the same reason, using SDR or CSDR in the environmental selection cannot preserve the diversity of solutions required to cover the entire PF. Therefore, we propose an MOEA, referred to as NSGA-III*, where (1) a modified SDR (MSDR)-based mating selection with an adaptive ensemble of parameter k would prioritize parents from specific sections of the PF depending on k, and (2) the traditional weight vector and non-dominated sorting-based environmental selection of NSGA-III would protect the solutions corresponding to the entire PF. The performance of NSGA-III* is favourably compared with state-of-the-art MOEAs on DTLZ and WFG test suites with up to 10 objectives.

Kabupaten Bantul meraih prestasi tingkat nasional di tahun 2008 yakni memperoleh penghargaan dalam KPPOD Award. Penghargaan yang diperoleh menjadi awal yang baik bagi Kabupaten Bantul dalam memperbaiki iklim penanaman modal. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis distribusi keruangan penanaman modal dan pengaruh karakteristik wilayah terhadap pemilihan lokasi penanaman modal. Teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif, analisis tetangga terdekat, dan analisis regresi berganda. Berdasarkan hasil kajian dapat disimpulkan bahwa distribusi keruangan penanaman modal di Kabupaten Bantul terdistribusi di 10 kecamatan, sedangkan 7 kecamatan lainnya belum menjadi destinasi penanaman modal. Untuk lokasi perusahaan penanaman modal membentuk pola dispersed atau merata dengan nilai R sebesar 5,920887 (R>1). Sebagian dari lokasi penanaman modal berada di tepi jalan raya. Pemilihan lokasi penanaman modal di Kabupaten Bantul dipengaruhi oleh faktor daya tarik karakteristik wilayah seperti pertumbuhan ekonomi dan jumlah objek wisata. Bantul Regency won the national award of KPPOD in 2008. That award was a good commencement to improve Bantul Regency’s investment climate. The aims of this research were to identify and analyse the spatial distribution of investment and the effect of regional characteristics on the selection of investment site. The analytical techniques used in the research are descriptive analysis, nearest neighbour analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that distribution of investment in Bantul Regency distributed in 10 sub-districts, while 7 others are not yet be destination of investment. For the location of investment firms forms a dispersed pattern with R value 5,920887 (R>1). Some investment firm are located on the edge of highway. The selection of investment sites in Bantul regency is affected by the attraction factors of the region characteristics such as economic growth and number of tourism objects.

This research  aims to  analyze the influence of the process of recruitment and  selection simultaneously as well as partially against employee performance support. In this study using a type of associative methods and quantitative data primary data sources by using the instrument of the questionnaire. The population in this research is the employee technician  PT. Telkom Akses Surabaya Utara as many as 56 respondents.Sampling technique used was saturated samples or often called as well with a sample of the total. Analytical techniques used in this research is the Partial Least Square (PLS) includes test convergen validity, discriminan validity, composite realibility, cronch alpha, R- square, simulan test (test F) and partial test (test T). The results of the analysis explains that the process of recruitment and selection effect simultaneously against the performance of the employee, this is indicated by the value of the count of 40.991 F is greater than F table 4.02 and significance value (S ig) 0.000 smaller than 0.05 and the process of recruitment of influential partially against the performance of the employee, this is shown by the value T calculate of 3.024 is greater than 1.96 table T and value its significance (P values) 0.003 smaller than 0.05. As well as a selection of influential partially against the performance of the employee, this is shown by the value T calculate of 2.856 is greater than 1.96 table T and value its significance (P values) 0.004 smaller than 0.05

Large neural networks are difficult to deploy on mobile devices because of intensive computation and storage. To alleviate it, we study ternarization, a balance between efficiency and accuracy that quantizes both weights and activations into ternary values. In previous ternarized neural networks, a hard threshold Δ is introduced to determine quantization intervals. Although the selection of Δ greatly affects the training results, previous works estimate Δ via an approximation or treat it as a hyper-parameter, which is suboptimal. In this paper, we present the Soft Threshold Ternary Networks (STTN), which enables the model to automatically determine quantization intervals instead of depending on a hard threshold. Concretely, we replace the original ternary kernel with the addition of two binary kernels at training time, where ternary values are determined by the combination of two corresponding binary values. At inference time, we add up the two binary kernels to obtain a single ternary kernel. Our method dramatically outperforms current state-of-the-arts, lowering the performance gap between full-precision networks and extreme low bit networks. Experiments on ImageNet with AlexNet (Top-1 55.6%), ResNet-18 (Top-1 66.2%) achieves new state-of-the-art.

Abstract: The extremely drug resistant may be a worldwide public ill health in recent years. The utilization of heterocyclic compounds has been increased dramatically over the last 70 years due to their wide selection of technical applications and their favorable environmental and toxicological properties The 1,8-naphthyridine and quinoline 3-carboxylic acid derivatives that we'll manufacture during this method will change the potency and specificity of fluoroquinolones. Taking under consideration the findings, the goal is to style and manufacture 1, 8-naphthyridine and quinoline 3-carboxylic acid derivatives. The synthesized compounds are going to be characterized using multiple analytical techniques, virtual screening, and in-silico ADME/T prediction.
