PLANNING IS AN ESSENTIAL PART of modern organisations and is integral to the role of a health service manager. The planning activity emerges as a consequence of the need to contain costs, manage health outcomes, and be held accountable for the effective, efficient and equitable provision of health services. Amidst the challenge to operate within the current resource (ie, financial, human and time) capacity there is an imperative to explore and develop innovative service delivery models to meet increased demand and expectations. Therefore, textbooks on the subject of planning in health-related topic areas are a valuable resource in these very challenging times in health care.

Despite the ubiquity of health-related communications via social media, no consensus has emerged what information should be conveyed and how it should be conveyed to avoid creating panic among general population. With lockdowns social media, mass media became as a habit by people for news, information regarding COVID-19 and it is practiced even after lockdown. During the COVID-19 pandemic, mass media, social media and local news has become as the source of a toxic “infodemic” source for public. It contained both solicited and unsolicited advice. No conceptual model exists for examining the roles of media. It is important to rst assess the important mis-information, role of infodemics and prevalent casualness among the public regarding the COVID-19. Till mass vaccination is not commenced it is prudent to emphasize guidelines and practices as per COVID guidelines like social distancing, wearing mask, hand hygiene

This study investigates the perception of the strengths and challenges that face city centre preschool teachers and preschool learners in the acquisition of English as medium of instruction and to use the results to explore the role of speech-language therapists in this context. A descriptive survey, incorporating a quantitative data collection method, was selected as the research design and a questionnaire was developed as a survey instrument. The findings identified the strengths as including the creative communication strategies employed by the pre-schoolers and the innovative techniques of the teachers. Perceived challenges include a cultural and linguistic mismatch between teachers and learners and communication barriers that cause emotional and behavioural problems in classrooms. The study suggests that speech-language therapists need to consider and employ service delivery models instead of traditional models with the preschool teachers.

The relevance of the research is based on the role of special orders of the Ministry of Health about the realization of citizens’ rights to available and qualitative medical care by providing patients with the opportunity to choose a medical organization. Problems arising in connection with the untimely delivery of health care arise from the contradictions in the provisions of regulations that occupy different places in the hierarchy of domestic legislation. The formulation of the research problem is conditioned by the subject of the analysis, which does not only reflect the existing contradiction between departmental orders in the health care system of the Constitution of the Russian Federation and the provisions of current federal legislation, but allows us to resolve the problems of their correlation, on the basis of which a serious transformation of the not yet patient-oriented normative framework in the health care sector should take place. The objective of the study is to formulate proposals for improving the current legislation that defines the rights of citizens in the field of healthcare. Based on the results obtained, conclusions were drawn, according to which it is advisable to adjust certain provisions of departmental regulations, taking into account the rights of patients, which they are endowed with by the Constitution of the Russian Federation and federal laws in the field of health care. Based on the criminological aspect of violations in the normative acts hierarchy by departmental orders, we can speak about the emergence of a new group of corruption risks.

Background: Adenoidectomy, tonsillectomy and adenotonsillectomy are among the most frequently performed procedures in otorhinolaryngology. Postoperative hemorrhage is, undoubtedly, the most feared complication of this kind of surgery. The authors aim to clarify the role of preoperative hemostatic assessment in adenotonsillar surgery, by reviewing the available literature on the subject.

Methods: Articles adressing preoperative assessment on adenotonsillar surgery were searched in PubMed® database, since its publication till April 2020.

Results: The role of hemostasis preoperative assessment in adenotonsillar surgery is still controversial, since some authors recommend its application in a selective range of patients, while others support its universal use. Most studies showed that a normal hemostatic study does not exclude the possibility of an hemostatic disease, and that most changed results are not correlated with the probability of postoperative hemorrhage. Hence, international recommendations discourage the screening of otherwise healthy patients, although most health care professionals continue to conduct preoperative tests in a systematic manner.

Conclusions: The authors emphasize the need to discuss the subject and to protocol the preoperative approach for these patients, given the confusing and divergent existing data, in such frequently performed procedures in the otolaryngology field.

This chapter examines how technology is supporting the health and health care system for rural/remote people, specifically telehealth and the Internet, with a focus on the Canadian context. I will begin by outlining the opportunities and the challenges that technology presents to rural people and communities. This is followed by highlighting the divide between rural and urban in the Canadian context, with a focus on inequities related to health. This is followed by exploring the role of ICTs in health and health care with a focus on changes in the Canadian healthcare system, telehealth and the Internet as a source of health related information. These issues are then examined through a rural lens, asking the question what, if any are the implications for rural people and communities. I end with a section of reflections followed by the conclusion that ICTs present new opportunities for rural people and communities, but if they are to be able to take advantage of these opportunities they must learn to develop the necessary capacities, both as individuals and as a community. Their challenge is a learning challenge.

AbstractIn (in)formal learning scenarios, individuals should develop epistemological beliefs (i.e., individual conceptions about the nature of knowledge and knowing) that are advantageous for understanding everyday science- and health-related information. To date, researchers measuring how to foster students’ discipline-specific epistemological beliefs have often tested researcher-designed texts in short-term interventions. Applying this logic to audio-visual stimuli, television clips might also affect (e.g., change) the epistemological beliefs of students. To test this assumption, three different television stimuli on the subject of Alzheimer’s disease with varying levels depicting the presented knowledge (as more advantageous, moderate, or less advantageous) were therefore selected by means of a content analysis, and their effects tested on a sample of 72 students using a pre-/post-test questionnaire. The results showed some partial support for the assumption that the epistemological beliefs of participants could become less advantageous when they are exposed to television clips depicting knowledge as moderate or less advantageous.

The aim of the work has been the investigation of the viewpoint of health care supervisors on the role of Russian Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare in intersectoral cooperation on the problems of health protection of the population within the subject of the Russian Federation. Material and methods. There has been carried out an anonymous questioning of 405 health care supervisors, including 126 experts. Besides, there have been analyzed the materials of annual national reports of the Administration of the Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare in the Saratov region “On the state of sanitary-epidemiological well-being of the population in the Russian Federation”. Results. There has been determined a list of 23 sectors engaged in health care of the population at the regional level - 13 relatively more significant (basic) and 10 relatively less significant sectors. Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare Russian is one of the basic sectors. There has been established the significance of cooperation of the sector “Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare Russian” with other engaged structures. A wide spectrum of 37 health determinants has been detected. There have been obtained the data which make it possible to determine two directions of health care optimization at the regional level. The first direction is associated with purposeful influence of the engaged sectors on health determinants. To achieve this aim there has been established the possible influence of each sector, Russian “Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare” in particular, on each of the considered health determinants. This will make the formation of prophylactic programs significantly easier due to transformation of this process into a purposeful and structured process. The second direction is conditioned by the fact that optimization of any process is possible on the basis of evaluation of the initial state of the process, and evaluation is based on corresponding informative indices. These 38 indices of the effectiveness of intersectoral cooperation on the problems of health protection of the population have been established, and the significance of Russian Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare’s influence on each of these indices has been determined. At establishment of an insufficient level of corresponding indices, the sector “Russian Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare’s has been brought to optimization. Conclusion. The results of mentioned investigation may be realized in activities for health protection of the population within the subject of the Russian Federation, and in professional training of authorized employees of the engaged sectors.

Occupational therapy practitioners have the opportunity to promote development for all children as new service delivery models are established for pediatric primary care. Three action steps are identified: (1) advocacy for legislation that requires developmental screenings and surveillance, (2) support of culturally responsive developmental monitoring, and (3) building evidence for occupational therapy in primary care settings. This article describes the role of occupational therapy practitioners on pediatric interprofessional teams in encouraging family capacity within the scope of health promotion and universal developmental monitoring.

Clinical trials of anticalculus agents in dentifrices published since 1989 have been reviewed. There are several methods for assessment of the growth of calculus, but the most widely applied is the Volpe-Manhold scoring method . The crystal growth inhibitors, pyrophosphate and zinc citrate, have received the greatest attention in trials of anticalculus agents. Prolongation of their activity in the mouth after teeth were brushed with the toothpaste has been sought by the use of materials which themselves have substantivity, or by the inclusion of other agents which will convey substantivity to the active ingredient. The copolymer of polyvinylmethyl ether and maleic acid anhydride has been found to increase the anticalculus efficacy of pyrophosphates, and it appears also to increase the retention of an antimicrobial, Triclosan, in plaque. The anticalculus activity of zinc is enhanced when combined with the antimicrobial Triclosan. Trials have demonstrated a retention of anticalculus and anticaries activity when fluorides are incorporated with pyrophosphate or zinc citrate in a dentifrice. Thus, dentifrices can be formulated to offer "total" oral health care. The newer dentifrice preparations containing an anticalculus agent with baking soda have been the subject of several trials which suggest that baking soda does not interfere with the activity of the anticalculus agents. The association between calculus and disease is far from clear, but there is evidence that calculus, both sub- and supragingivally, may be linked to gingival recession in heavy-calculus-formers. More research is needed to clarify the role of supragingival calculus in periodontal diseases.
