The literature on the impacts of heterogeneity and selection in population analysis has been limited largely to the conventional unistate perspective in which only decrements are considered; and their temporal (selectivity) impacts on independent subpopulations examined. In this paper, the focus is on the evolutionary dynamics of (multistate) multiregional populations whose interdependent subpopulations can experience increments as well as decrements. It is shown that in such instances migration rates that are not true occurrence-exposure rates are ambiguous, because they depend on the relative weightings existing during the initial model-fitting period. Net migration rates, lifetime migration rates, and return migration proportions all are imperfect measures of migration propensities, and their use as input measures to an analysis should be avoided whenever possible.

We need law and economics to do the scientific measurement necessary for legal design to be seen as on the stage of science. Law and economics—which is the application of economic theory, especially microeconomic theory, to the analysis and the practice of law--is a valid tool and approach to reflect on what should be empirically investigated in the practice of legal design. The neoclassical (mainstream) theoretical foundation of economic analysis of law is, however, at times far from reality as it often predicts uncooperative and even selfish behaviour. In real life people do cooperate, have empathy, emotions and even behave in an altruistic way. For those reasons, behavioural law and economics and conventional wisdom are needed to complement the teachings from standard theory in the field of commercial contracting.

Abstract:This paper offers a reply to Jochen Runde's critical appraisal of the ontological framework underpinning Dopfer and Potts's (2008) General Theory of Economic Evolution. We argue that Runde's comprehensive critique contains several of what we perceive to be misunderstandings in relation to the key concepts of ‘generic’ and ‘meso’ that we seek here to unpack and redress.

The Keynes' "General Theory", published 80 years ago, overthrew the neoclassical orthodoxy and created a new understanding of how market economy works. The main idea of the "General Theory" is that the amount of employment depends on the level of effective demand. Keynes believed that much economic activity is governed by "animal spirits" because of the existence of inescapable uncertainty about the future. In Keynes' view these "animal spirits" are the main cause for economic fluctuations. The uncertainty and "animalspirits"make investments unstable. He made distinction between risk (which is measurable) and uncertainty (which is not). This is the reason why Keynes opposed the excessive mathematicization of economics. His another important impact on economics was to switch the focus of economic analysis from the long run to the short term. The message of "General Theory" was that government should manage demand to limit economic fluctuations. The role Keynes gave the state was essentially to reduce uncertainty and to make economy more predictable.

We present a general theory for analyzing catch at age data for a fishery. This theory seems to be the first to address itself properly to the stochastic nature of the errors in the observed catch at age data. The model developed is very flexible and accommodates itself easily to the inclusion of extra information such as fishing effort data or information about errors in the aging procedure. An example is given to illustrate the use of the model.Key words: cohort analysis, virtual population analysis, maximum likelihood estimation, aging errors

Objective: To consider the change in the operation of the St. Petersburg transport hub station and the railway station when launching the Aeroexpress. Methods: Means and methods of logistics, general theory of systems, terminalistics, system and economic analysis, as well as management of operational work of railways are used. Results: Alternative options for changing the operation of the station and the station at the launch of the Aeroexpress are proposed in the conditions of the St. Petersburg transport hub station. The fi rst option involves organizing the reception and departure of Aeroexpress trains on the existing track intended for suburban traffi c. The second option assumes to specialize for the reception and departure of fast suburban electric trains in communication with Pulkovo airport the existing apron electrifi ed receiving and receiving track in a complex with an island passenger platform located nearby. When passenger fl ows change at the station complex, the number of ticket offi ces is calculated. The issues of organizing service activities for servicing Aeroexpress passengers at the station complex are considered. Based on the economic calculations carried out and based on the results of the survey of potential Aeroexpress passengers, practical recommendations were made for launching an Aeroexpress train in the conditions of the St. Petersburg transport hub. Practical importance: The results obtained can be applied in the implementation of the concept of development of the St. Petersburg transport hub, in the design of individual elements and devices of the railway hub to improve the organization of passenger transportation, as well as in determining the prospects for the development of railway complexes.
