The high contents of alkali ion and chloride ion in soda residue pollute environment. So how to treat the soda residue is an urgent problem to be solved in China. The soda residue can be used in inorganic binder stabilized materials. But the negative effect of soda residue is not studied. The impermeability, frost resistance, and chloride ion leaching of inorganic binder stabilize materials prepared by soda residue are studied. And the results as followings: (1) The permeability coefficients of cement/ mineral admixture-soda residue stabilized stone chip are very low, and they are good impermeable materials; (2) The frost resistance of cement-silica fume-soda residue stabilized stone chip is good, and silica fume is recommended to be used in cold area; (3) The mineral admixture has a better long-term immobilized effect on chloride ion than cement, and the ground granular blast-furnance slag is the best mineral admixture to immobilize the chloride ion.

Cancer is one of the most common causes of death worldwide. Along with the advances in diagnostic technology achieved through industry–academia partnerships, the survival rate of cancer patients has improved dramatically through treatments that include surgery, radiation therapy, and pharmacotherapy. This has increased the population of cancer “survivors” and made cancer survivorship an important part of life for patients. The senses of taste and smell during swallowing and cachexia play important roles in dysphagia associated with nutritional disorders in cancer patients. Cancerous lesions in the brain can cause dysphagia. Taste and smell disorders that contribute to swallowing can worsen or develop because of pharmacotherapy or radiation therapy; metabolic or central nervous system damage due to cachexia, sarcopenia, or inflammation can also cause dysphagia. As the causes of eating disorders in cancer patients are complex and involve multiple factors, cancer patients require a multifaceted and long-term approach by the medical care team.

Strontium ( Sr ) concentration in the shells of short-necked clams collected at different locations (Shirahama, warm area and Maizuru, cold area, Japan) was analyzed by two methods, PIXE and EPMA. The Sr concentration of external surface of shell umbo, which was made during short term at early benthic phase, was analyzed by PIXE, and was ranged from 1000 to 3500 ppm for individuals. The Sr concentration of clams collected at Shirahama showed positive correlation with shell length (SL) in individuals with SL <31mm, whereas clams collected at Maizuru did not show significant correlation. This result may be caused from the difference of the spawning seasons between two areas. The Sr concentration of cross section of shell umbo, which develops thicker continuously during their life to form faint stratum structure, was analyzed by EPMA along the line across the stratum structure. Some surges and long term waving patterns of the Sr concentration were observed. These results suggest that the life histories of individual clams could be recorded in the shell umbo cross sections as variations of trace elements and analyses of trace elements could clarify the histories of individual clams.

Differences or disorders of sex development are a group of heterogeneous conditions, which most commonly present in the newborn period, with the appearance of atypical genitalia on newborn examination. Over recent years, the improvement in our knowledge of these conditions has been accompanied by advances in diagnostic technology and therapeutic options, as well as societal shifts in attitudes and expectations. These factors have placed an even greater emphasis than before on the need for early expert input through a multidisciplinary service that can support the patient and the family; perform and interpret the investigations required to reach a diagnosis; and formulate a management plan that lays down the foundation for optimal long-term outcome. While providing a regional service, the expert team should also be committed to research and quality improvement through participation in national and international networks.

AbstractNeurobiology-based interventions for mental diseases and searches for useful biomarkers of treatment response have largely failed. Clinical trials should assess interventions related to environmental and social stressors, with long-term follow-up; social rather than biological endpoints; personalized outcomes; and suitable cluster, adaptive, and n-of-1 designs. Labor, education, financial, and other social/political decisions should be evaluated for their impacts on mental disease.

AbstractA long-term photographic search programme for minor planets was begun at the Kleť Observatory at the end of seventies using a 0.63-m Maksutov telescope, but with insufficient respect for long-arc follow-up astrometry. More than two thousand provisional designations were given to new Kleť discoveries. Since 1993 targeted follow-up astrometry of Kleť candidates has been performed with a 0.57-m reflector equipped with a CCD camera, and reliable orbits for many previous Kleť discoveries have been determined. The photographic programme results in more than 350 numbered minor planets credited to Kleť, one of the world's most prolific discovery sites. Nearly 50 per cent of them were numbered as a consequence of CCD follow-up observations since 1994.This brief summary describes the results of this Kleť photographic minor planet survey between 1977 and 1996. The majority of the Kleť photographic discoveries are main belt asteroids, but two Amor type asteroids and one Trojan have been found.
