<p>Biomonitoring is the use of organisms to monitor and assess/detect the condition of an environment. Ngimboh Coast is a coastal line in Ujungpangkah Subdistrict, East Java (Indonesia) which functions as a vessel berth, TPI, and shipyard industry which has the potential to dispose of waste containing Pb<sup>2+</sup> and Cr<sup>6+</sup> which affect the physical condition of chemicals and organisms in these waters. This study aims to determine the Biofilm can be a biomonitoring agent in heavy metals Pb<sup>2+</sup> and Cr<sup>6+</sup> and to know the physical chemical conditions in the Ngimboh coast, Ujungpangkah District, Gresik. This study uses a survey method. Biofilm, sediment and water sampling was carried out at 3 sampling points, namely the first sampling point area close to the disposal of shipyard industrial waste, the second sampling point was an empty land area, and sampling point three was the estuary area. The parameters were measured such as physical properties (temperature, current speed, water depth), chemical properties (pH, DO, salinity), metal content of Pb<sup>2+</sup> and Cr<sup>6+</sup> on biofilms, sediments and water.</p>

One of the most severe environmental problems is heavy metal pollution such as Cr(VI) in aquatic ecosystems.  Cr(VI) is toxic and carcinogenic heavy metals pollutants that persistent and easily accumulated through the food web. Accumulation of Cr(VI) concentration in the aquatic ecosystem gradually increases with the increases of industrial activity. Therefore, Cr(VI) concentration in aquatic ecosystems should be monitored continuously, and thus, suitable and accuracy monitoring technologies are necessary. This study analyzed the utilization of biofilm as a biomonitoring agent of Cr(VI) in the Badek River, Malang City. The concentration of Cr(VI) inside the biofilm and the surrounding water of biofilm were investigated. The results revealed that the concentrations of Cr(VI) inside the biofilms were hundred times higher than the surrounding water. The biofilm may accumulate Cr(VI) from the surrounding water resulting in the Cr(VI)-rich microenvironment inside the biofilm. The adsorbed Cr(VI) is retained mostly in the interstitial water of the biofilm matrices. The findings in this study suggested that the biofilm can be used as a potential biological agent to monitor of Cr(VI) pollutant in the river ecosystems.

Abstract Pollution is entered or the inclusion of living things, matter, energy, and or other components into the water. The study shows that the qualitative waters affected Sidoarjo mud Lapindo has the value of pollution index (13.3433), Sidoarjo heavily polluted coastal waters, and to sustain the cultivation of water treatments required physical, chemical and biological before the water is used for maintenance (Sudinno, 2009). Associated with the food chain, plankton have properties capable of accumulating pollutants in the environment. Pollutants in the environment are accumulated by plankton forming toxin becomes toxic compounds. There is a selection of flora and fauna to be used either as a biofilter, bioakumulator well as pollution biomonitoring agent occurs in the waters of the sea grass Gracillia sp. Giving Gracilaria sp. with different doses expected to affect the dominance of plankton in the water media exposure of heavy metals Cr. Once the research is done, it turns out the levels of heavy metals chromium (Cr) has been dropped from the initial 0.18 mg / l to 0.09 mg / l in the sediment. There Tetraselmis chuii plankton dominance in aqueous media, dominance of plankton in the water medium to portray the diversity of aquatic environments with low plankton, and this is not good for plankton and other organisms that utilize the natural feed.

Green mussel (Perna viridis) can playing role as bio-indicator or biomonitoring agent for heavy-metalcontaminations in the sea. In this research, the concentrations of four elements Ni, Cu, Zn and Cd in P. viridis and in the serum of rat which orally feed by P. viridis were determined by Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS) following dry acid digestion. Parameter analysis was evaluated by determining confidence limit for the obtained results. The result showed that there was a sequence of heavy-metal content in green mussels sample and laboratory rats serum, such as Ni < Cd < Cu < Zn.Keywords: heavy metals, green mussels, laboratory rats serum, AAS

The aim of the present investigation was to quantify the levels of trace elements (Zn, Cu, As, Pb, Cd and total Hg) in the Mediterranean mussel, Mytilus galloprovincialis (L.). Based on their levels, the quality of Montenegro seawater for future mussel farming was estimated. The mussel M. galloprovincialis (L.) was collected from four sites in the Montenegrin costal area in the period of two years to determine trace element concentrations and to classify the quality of the coastal water and possible health risks from its consumption. The mean metal concentrations in the mussels ranged from 133.5-205.9 for Zn, 7.50-14.5 for Cu, 4.42-13.3 for As, 4.70-12.9 for Pb, 1.73-2.41 for Cd and 0.07-0.59 for total Hg in mg/kg dry weight. The levels of toxic metals (except for Pb) in the mussels were within the maximum residual levels prescribed by the laws of Montenegro, the EU and the USFDA. In addition, the trace metal concentrations found in the mussels in this study were similar to regional data using this mussel as a biomonitoring agent of seawater quality.
