Background: Today, medical and health tourism is one of the most promising sectors in the tourism industry in the world, which has led the organizations involved ,and the countries interested in developing tourism ,to focus their attention on this aspect of the tourism industry and plan for it. Hence, the aim of this study was to design the marketing model of medical tourism using meta-synthesis method. Methods: The present study was designed as a meta-synthesis research in several stages for East Azerbaijan Province, Iran. Accordingly, after identifying the categories, concepts and marketing codes of medical tourism and evaluating its validity and reliability, the initial conceptual model of the research was formed. Out of 100 retrieved studies, 8 studies completely related to the purpose of the study were included in final analysis. In order to present the marketing model of medical tourism, the qualitative research method of meta-synthesis,s Sandlowski and Barroso (2006) was used. Results: The conceptual model in the present study consists of 5 dimensions, 10 components and 40 indicators which can show the marketing model of medical tourism. 5 main dimensions included; quality of medical and tourism services, price of medical and tourism services, development of tourism and medicine, medical and tourism facilities and equipment, and information and communication technology. Conclusion: The results of the research show that the dimensions, components and indicators extracted from the meta-synthesis method are approved by the panel of experts. The findings provide a new model and perspective on how to market medical tourism for the Iranian tourism industry, which will help managers, planners and policy makers of the healthcare system.

Medical tourism is becoming a new trend in the Polish health care system. The dynamic changes in the market for this type of tourism services are compounded by a variety of economic factors as well as social or cultural transformations and the advancement of medicine and the possibilities of treating various medical conditions offered in foreign institutions. A clinic seeking success in the medical tourism market should define and implement care standards appropriate for patients from abroad and constantly improve their quality. The paper presents practical recommendations on how to reorganize a medical facility that wants to grow in the medical tourism market and effectively attract a foreign patient. This paper present particular stages of the patients flow in a medical center.

Health tourism is becoming more important as people are more concerned about their health. Meanwhile, traveling for healthcare and consuming medical tourism packages has increased significantly in the last decades. Moreover, many tourists travel abroad, with the intention of benefiting from quality treatments at lower prices, and sometimes benefiting from medical procedures which are unavailable in their home countries. Consequently, health and medical resorts make constant preparations to provide services conforming to the customers’ standards. In this article we present in a comparative perspective the case of two health resorts, i.e. Baile Felix (Romania) and Baladuc-les-Bains (France). Both resorts benefit from rich natural resources, especially thermal waters, but also accommodation and treatment facilities enabling them to provide high quality medical and tourism services.

Furthermore, the authors, through a rich case study of the International Medical Embassy, examined the role played by the different digital marketing techniques in the development of medical tourism services in an emerging country such as Tunisia. based that, theoretical as well as practical recommendations are presented.

Medical tourism (MT) is a modern type of medical services outside the state of residence. It links medicine and tourism. Moreover, its availability combined with economic feasibility is the main incentive for seeking medical care outside the place of residence and is an important issue for national health systems. A noticeable MT contribution to the country`s economy is possible if there is a well-thought-out infrastructure with introduction of certification procedure, a universal service and marketing system, an adequate response to the offer of additional tourism services and regulation of conditions for systematic cooperation with private intermediaries. However, the absence of interstate standards for this type of medical care leads to significant ethical, political, epidemiological and economic problems and makes it difficult to assess its professional quality. This necessitates the creation of a legal framework that takes into account the rights and responsibilities of both the medical services consumer and the host country.

PurposeThis study aims to examine the use of cryptocurrencies and transactions in medical tourism and to discuss how this use provides advantages to healthcare institutions and states that provide medical tourism services.Design/methodology/approachThis study is a descriptive, cross-sectional, correlational and methodological quantitative research. Data were collected through a questionnaire with 555 potential medical tourists. Data were analyzed with Pearson correlation and hierarchical regression using STATA.FindingsThe correlation results showed a statistically significant high and positive correlation between the use of cryptocurrencies and transactions in medical tourism and the medical tourist's intention. The variables that contributed to the medical tourist's intention were monetary risk minimization, access-security and malpractice-civil trial in the highest order of contribution. Accordingly, the monetary risk minimization was the most contributing to the medical tourist's intention.Originality/valueThis study provides a piece of initial empirical evidence on the contribution of using cryptocurrencies and transactions in medical tourism.

Abstract Background: Healthcare tourism is an emerging economy with the most potential in China's health industry before the COVID-19 pandemic. Surgical medical health tourism accounts for a large part of medical tourism services in China, which has higher requirements for quality and safety. By contrast, measurement tools and theoretical research are insufficient in China. The aim of this study was to develop a set of reliable and feasible indicators by augmenting the original Donabedian’s quality model to evaluate surgical tourism services’ quality.Methods: Literature review and focus group interview were used to generate indicators for surgical tourism services’ quality. The basic framework of the evaluation system was based on the structure-process-outcome Donabedian model. The screening and weight setting were conducted through analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and a two-round Delphi consultation with 13 panelists. Validity and reliability of experts were tested by the experts' positive coefficient, authority coefficient, and coordination coefficient. Reliability of the questionnaire was assessed by a pretest distributed within an international medical department of a public hospital in China.Results: Based on the Donabedian’s quality theory, the novel evaluation system of surgical tourism service institutions with 3 dimensions, 9 first-level items and 39 second-level items was constructed. The three dimensions consist of structure (0.315), process (0.287), and outcome (0.398), with each dimension set several indicators and each indicator given a weight. Of the two rounds of Delphi consultation, the response rates were 86.67% and 100%. The coordination coefficient of expert opinions in the two rounds of consultation were 0.49 and 0.65 (p<0.05). For the empirical study, the self-evaluation score of a public hospital was 86, which could obtain a rating of two stars.Conclusions: The established evaluation system identified three different dimensions of surgical tourism services’ quality which fit for practical healthcare improvement in safety and quality. It can reflect the access criterion of surgical tourism institutions, provide references on better choices of surgical services for tourists, and can be applied by healthcare managers and policy makers to allocate resources more efficiently and promote more surgical tourism services to international standards.
