This study presents experimental results of structural analysis, such as phase composition, grains size assessment, strength and hardness of Ni-SPAN-C alloy 902 after various heat treatment modes (hardening and aging for stress relaxation). A thermal treatment mode has been selected to obtain higher physical and mechanical properties of the elinvar alloy. It is shown that the improvement of the alloy structure in thermal treatment occurs due to the thermic stresses, as well as the formation and dissolution of intermetallides.

The precipitation behaviors and microstructures of nano-precipitates in AA6082 Al-Mg-Si alloy with and without Cu additions during heat treatment process were studied using hardness measurements, TEM, mechanical tests and 3DAP. Meanwhile, the softening process of 6082 alloys with Cu and without Cu, isothermally conditioned at 250°C, has also been investigated. It was found that the rate of age hardening, mechanical properties and thermal stability are higher for the Cu-containing alloy. The TEM and 3DAP observations showed that Q’ precipitates were existed after aged at 170°C for 8h in the alloy with Cu addition. Comparing the hardness, mechanical properties and thermal stability curves, it was concluded that the Q’ precipitates play a major role in improving the age hardening kinetics and properties of 6082 alloy with Cu addition.

A 356 alloy reinforced with insitu V2O5 particles by using stir casting technique. The composites were produced by the addition of oxide particles in different weight percentage. The effect of oxide powder addition on microstructure and mechanical properties of produced composites were investigated. The effect of heat treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties were investigated by optical microscope, Microhardness tester and tension test. A significant improvement in hardness and tensile strength was revealed in the produced composite as compared to the base alloy. With the addition of oxide particles, the shape and size of eutectic Si changed which in turn affects the properties. It was observed that 2h solutionizing followed by the artificial aging was sufficient to make the structure homogenize and to produce the hardening precipitates. The improvement in the mechanical properties has been observed due to the age hardening precipitates in addition with refinement of insitu V2O5 particles.

With different heat treatment, the microstructure and mechanical properties of ZK60 magnesium alloy were investigated. It can be concluded that heat treatment has great effect on mechanical properties of ZK60. With artificial aging after extruding, the precipitation of the second phase from the supersaturated solid solution significantly improved mechanical properties. It can greatly increase yield strength of ZK60 alloy, while the tensile strength has little change. For the combination of solid solution strengthening and age hardening, two opposite factors must be considered. On one hand, the solid solution strengthening and the later precipitation strengthening is good for alloy’s strength; on the other hand, the properties decrease as the grains grew under high temperature for a long time during solution heating.

Secondary aluminium alloys are made out of aluminium scrap and aluminium-processable waste by recycling. These alloys contain different alloying elements such as Al, Cu, Fe, Si and Mg that form intermetallic phases in aluminium matrix and influence on the microstructure, basic mechanical properties and microhardness evolution in aluminium cast alloy. As experimental material was used secondary aluminium cast alloy AlSi9Cu3. Material was subjected to heat treatment (age-hardening) consisting of a solution treatment at temperature 515 °C with holding time 4 hours, than water quenching at 40 °C and artificial aging by different temperature 130 °C, 150 °C and 170 °C with different holding time (2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 hours). The age-hardening led to changes in the morphology of structural components, but also leads to precipitation of finer hardening phases in the material substructure. As optimal age-hardening mode for secondary aluminium cast alloy AlSi9Cu3 was determined mode consisting of solution treatment at temperature 515 °C with holding time 4 hours and artificial aging at temperature 170 °C with holding time 16 hours. After this heat treatment cast alloy shows the best changes in microstructure and mechanical properties. These changes are comparable with changes by primary AlSi9Cu3 cast alloy.
