Fractional characterization of fluid and synergistic effects of free convective flow in circular pipe through Hankel transform

Background: In this paper, transient two-dimensional laminar boundary layer viscous incompressible free convective flow of water based nanofluid with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) past a moving vertical cylinder with variable surface temperature is studied numerically in the presence of thermal radiation and heat generation. Methods: The prevailing partial differential equations which model the flow with initial and boundary conditions are solved by implicit finite difference method of Crank Nicolson type which is unconditionally stable and convergent. Results: Influence of Grashof number (Gr), nanoparticle volume fraction ( ), heat generation parameter (Q), temperature exponent (m), radiation parameter (N) and time (t) on velocity and temperature profiles are sketched graphically and elaborated comprehensively. Conclusion: Analysis of Nusselt number and Skin friction coefficient are also discussed numerically for both single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs).

This work reports a detailed characterization of the antimicrobial profile of two trimethoprim-like molecules (compounds 1a and 1b) identified in previous studies. Both molecules displayed remarkable antimicrobial activity, particularly when combined with sulfamethoxazole. In disk diffusion assays on Petri dishes, compounds 1a and 1b showed synergistic effects with colistin. Specifically, in combinations with low concentrations of colistin, very large increases in the activities of compounds 1a and 1b were determined, as demonstrated by alterations in the kinetics of bacterial growth despite only slight changes in the fractional inhibitory concentration index. The effect of colistin may be to increase the rate of antibiotic entry while reducing efflux pump activity. Compounds 1a and 1b were susceptible to extrusion by efflux pumps, whereas the inhibitor phenylalanine arginyl β-naphthylamide (PAβN) exerted effects similar to those of colistin. The interactions between the target enzyme (dihydrofolate reductase), the coenzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH), and the studied molecules were explored using enzymology tools and computational chemistry. A model based on docking results is reported.

An exact solution of the free convective flow of a viscous incompressible fluid from a heated disk, rotating in a vertical plane, is obtained. The non-axisymmetric fluid motion consists of two parts; the primary von Kármán axisymmetric flow and the secondary buoyancy-induced cross-flow. A highly accurate solution of the energy equation is also derived for its subsequent use in the analysis of the cross-flow.

Water soluble pentosans (WSP) from doughs and breads made with different enzyme preparations are characterized according to extraction yield, sugar composition, xylose/arabinose ratio and molecular weight (MW) distribution. Extraction yield was greater for dough than for bread samples, ranging from 0.94 to 1.64%, but bread extracts had a higher purity. Percent of pentoses in purified WSP was greater in pentosanase supplemented samples (28-55%) than in control and amylase containing samples (23-32%). Major sugars were xylose and arabinose, but glucose and mannose also appeared in the extracts. The xylose/arabinose (Xyl/Ara) ratio was 1.3-1.6 and underwent small changes during processing. Enzyme addition caused an increase in Xyl/Ara ratio, attributable to a debranching of arabinoxylans (AX) with higher degree of Ara substitution by arabinofuranosidase. Addition of pentosanases had a significant effect in increasing WSP with MW over 39 000, whereas those of low MW changed only slightly. MW distribution depended on enzyme source, and whereas some enzymes showed activity during fermentation others increased their activity during baking. No synergistic effects were observed in studied variables due to the combination of amylases with pentosanases. Protein in WSP extracts eluted together with ferulic acid suggesting they were linked, but not associated with a determined carbohydrate fraction.
