In this paper, heat transfer and entropy of steady Williamson nanofluid flow based on the fundamental symmetry is studied. The fluid is positioned over a stretched flat surface moving non-uniformly. Nanofluid is analyzed for its flow and thermal transport properties by consigning it to a convectively heated slippery surface. Thermal conductivity is assumed to be varied with temperature impacted by thermal radiation along with axisymmetric magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). Boundary layer approximations lead to partial differential equations, which are transformed into ordinary differential equations in light of a single phase model accounting for Cu-water and TiO2-water nanofluids. The resulting ODEs are solved via a finite difference based Keller box scheme. Various formidable physical parameters affecting fluid movement, difference in temperature, system entropy, skin friction and Nusselt number around the boundary are presented graphically and numerically discussed. It has also been observed that the nanofluid based on Cu-water is identified as a superior thermal conductor rather than TiO2-water based nanofluid.

An experiment investigation was performed using R410A in order to determine the single-phase and evaporation heat transfer coefficients on the outside of (i) a smooth tube; (ii) herringbone tube; and (iii) the newly developed Vipertex enhanced surface 1EHT tube; all with the same external diameter (12.7 mm). The nominal evaporation temperature is 279 K, with inlet and outlet qualities of 0.1 and 0.8. Mass fluxes ranged from 10 to 40 kg m−2s−1. Results suggest that the 1EHT tube has excellent heat transfer performance but a higher pressure drop when compared to a smooth tube. Evaporation heat transfer coefficient for the 1EHT is lower than the herringbone tube and the pressure drop is almost the same.

Boiling flow of deionized water through 227μm hydraulic diameter microchannels with 7.5μm wide interconnected reentrant cavities at 47 kPa exit pressure has been investigated. Average two-phase heat transfer coefficients have been obtained over effective heat fluxes ranging from 28 to 445W∕cm2 and mass fluxes from 41 to 302kg∕m2s. A map is developed that divides the data into two regions where the heat transfer mechanisms are nucleation or convective boiling dominant. The map is compared to similar atmospheric exit pressure data developed in a previous study. A boiling mechanism transition criterion based on the Reynolds number and the Kandlikar k1 number is proposed.

Single vapour bubble growth and heat transfer mechanism during flow boiling in a rectangular horizontal mini-channel were experimentally investigated. The hydraulic diameter of the channel was 1454 μm, with an aspect ratio (Win/din) of 10. Degassed FC-72 was used as the working liquid. In this paper, bubble equivalent radius was found to increase linearly till a critical time, beyond which the growth turned into exponential. Bubble growth rate increases with increasing heat flux. Heat transfer mechanisms of the bubble growth at different heat fluxes and mass fluxes were discussed. In addition, the relation between thermal and flow conditions with bubble temporal geometry was explored.
