In this work, approximations to the solutions of singularly perturbed second-order linear delay differential equations are studied. We firstly use two-term Taylor series expansion for the delayed convection term and obtain a singularly perturbed ordinary differential equation (ODE). Later, an efficient and simple asymptotic method so called Successive Complementary Expansion Method (SCEM) is employed to obtain a uniformly valid approximation to this corresponding singularly perturbed ODE. As the final step, we employ a numerical procedure to solve the resulting equations that come from SCEM procedure. In order to show efficiency of this numerical-asymptotic hybrid method, we compare the results with exact solutions if possible; if not we compare with the results that are obtained by other reported methods.

We derived a two-step, four-stage, and fifth-order semi-implicit hybrid method which can be used for solving special second-order ordinary differential equations. The method is then trigonometrically fitted so that it is suitable for solving problems which are oscillatory in nature. The methods are then used for solving oscillatory delay differential equations. Numerical results clearly show the efficiency of the new method when compared to the existing explicit and implicit methods in the scientific literature.

A set of order condition for block explicit hybrid method up to order five is presented and, based on the order conditions, two-point block explicit hybrid method of order five for the approximation of special second order delay differential equations is derived. The method is then trigonometrically fitted and used to integrate second-order delay differential equations with oscillatory solutions. The efficiency curves based on the log of maximum errors versus the CPU time taken to do the integration are plotted, which clearly demonstrated the superiority of the trigonometrically fitted block hybrid method.

In this paper, the concept of a new ?-generalized quasi metric space is introduced. A number of well-known quasi metric spaces are retrieved from ?-generalized quasi metric space. Some general fixed point theorems in a ?-generalized quasi metric spaces are proved, which generalize, modify and unify some existing fixed point theorems in the literature. We also give applications of our results to obtain fixed points for contraction mappings in the domain of words and to prove the existence of periodic solutions of delay differential equations.

In this work the application of delay differential equations to the modelling of mass transport in porous media, where the convective transport of mass, is presented and discussed. The differences and advantages when compared with the Dispersion Model are highlighted. Using simplified models of the local structure of a porous media, in particular a network model made up by combining two different types of network elements, channels and chambers, the mass transport under transient conditions is described and related to the local geometrical characteristics. The delay differential equations system that describe the flow, arise from the combination of the mass balance equations for both the network elements, and after taking into account their flow characteristics. The solution is obtained using a time marching method, and the results show that the model is capable of describing the qualitative behaviour observed experimentally, allowing the analysis of the influence of the local geometrical and flow field characteristics on the mass transport.
