Abstract This work presents the scheme of optical channeling of the intense Hermite Gaussian laser beam and second-harmonic generation in plasma having the preformed plasma channel, where relativistic nonlinearity is operative. Excitation of the electron plasma wave at the incident beam frequency leads its coupling with the latter produces the second harmonics of the beam. For the formulation of differential equations for the beam waists of the Hermite Gaussian laser beam propagating through the channel, the method of moments has been used. The solutions of the coupled differential equations are found using Runge Kutta fourth-order numerical method. Perturbation theory has been applied to find the equation governing the excitation of electron plasma wave and hence the source term for the second-harmonic yield. It has been observed that the preformed plasma channel helps to optically guide the laser beam and enhances the efficiency of second-harmonic generation of various modes of the Hermite Gaussian laser beam in plasma.

AbstractThis paper presents an investigation of self-focusing of a q-Gaussian laser beam and its effect on harmonic generation in a preformed collisionless parabolic plasma channel. In the presence of a q-Gaussian laser beam, the carriers get redistributed from high field region to low field region on account of ponderomotive force as a result of which a transverse density gradient is produced in the channel which in turn generates plasma wave at pump frequency. Generated plasma wave interacts with the incident laser beam and generate higher harmonics of the incident laser beam. Moment theory has been used to derive differential equation for the spot size of laser beam propagating through the channel. The differential equation so obtained has been solved numerically. The effect of the intensity of laser beam, deviation of intensity distribution of laser beam along its wave front from Gaussian distribution, plasma density and depth of channel on beam width of laser beam and harmonic yield has been investigated. The effect of order of higher harmonic on harmonic yield has been also investigated.

AbstractThis paper presents a scheme for second harmonic generation (SHG) of q-Gaussian laser beam in plasma channel created by ignitor heater technique. The ignitor beam creates plasma by tunnel ionization of air. The heater beam heats the plasma electrons and establishes a parabolic density profile. The third beam (q-Gaussian beam) is guided in this plasma channel under the combined effects of density nonuniformity of the plasma channel and relativistic mass nonlinearity of the plasma electrons. The propagation of q-Gaussian laser beam through the plasma channel excites an electron plasma wave at pump frequency that interacts with the incident laser beam to produce its second harmonics. The formulation is based on finding the numerical solution of the nonlinear Schrodinger wave equation for the fields of the incident laser beams with the help of moment theory approach. Particular emphasis is put on dynamical variations of the spot size of the laser beams and conversion efficiency of the second harmonics with distance of propagation.

AbstractIn this paper, we have investigated the propagation characteristics of cosh-Gaussian laser beam in magnetoplasma using relativistic nonlinearity. The field distribution in the medium is expressed in terms of beam width parameter an and decentred parameter b. An appropriate nonlinear Schräodinger equation has been solved analytically using variational approach. The behaviour of beam width parameter with dimensionless distance of propagation ξ for various b values is examined. Self-phase modulation and self-trapping is also studied under variety of parameters. Further, the effect of magnetic field on self-focusing of the beam have been explored.
