Purpose is development of tools for assessing the emergency hazard of facility for disposal of explosive conversion products and materials. Results have been obtained by means of the economic and mathematical modelling methods, with use of the fundamental provisions of probability theory. The main task of conversion products and materials disposal is the creation and organization of safe technological processes aimed at returning the material resources contained in the conversion products to the state’s economy after the appropriate processing, rather than at destroying these resources. As a methodological basis for assessing the emergency hazard of a facility, a provision has been accepted that an integral measure of the disposal process hazard is the economic assessment of accidents. A scheme has been constructed of successiveness of the disposal facility events and states that can lead to an accident, on the basis of which a probabilistic model of its occurrence is developed. Proposed probabilistic model of an accident initiation at the facility for disposal of explosive conversion products and materials makes it possible to predict the behaviour of facility, based on results of the equipment and service personnel state survey, as well as on the analysis of the environmental conditions.

Mathematical modelling of steam-water cycle with auxiliary empirical functions applicationResearch oriented on identification of operating states variations with the application of mathematical models of thermal processes has been developed in the field of energy processes diagnostics. Simple models, characterised by short calculation time, are necessary for thermal diagnostics needs. Such models can be obtained using empirical modelling methods. Good results brings the construction of analytical model with auxiliary empirical built-in functions. The paper presents a mathematical model of a steam-water cycle containing mass and energy balances and semiempirical models of steam expansion line in turbine as well as heat transfer in exchangers. A model of steam expansion line in a turbine is worked out with the application of a steam flow capacity equation and an internal efficiency of process equation for each group of stages for the analysed turbine. A model of a heat exchanger contains energy balance and the relation describing heat transfer in an exchanger, proposed by Beckman. Estimation of empirical equations coefficients was realised with the application of special and reliable measurements. Estimation criterion was a weighted relative sum of the remainder squares. There are exemplary calculations results presented in the final part of paper.

The composition of a synthetic culture medium for levorin biosynthesis by Streptomyces levoris 99/23 was optimised using mathematical modelling methods. The optimal concentrations of the medium components were established by means of an optimum composition design at three factor variation levels. An adequate regression model was obtained. Levorin biosynthesis by Streptomyces levoris 99/23 in the optimised synthetic medium was over 38% higher than in the initial medium. The antibiotic biosynthesis dynamics in the optimised culture medium was studied by means of a non-linear differential equation system. The resultant model was valid.

Patenting Activity

"Patentability" refers to conditions laid down by law to what can be patented and what cannot. In this study, changes in the patentability of simulation methods are compared with the rapid development of computational science since 1970s. Although technological progress has caused computational simulation and modelling methods to grow to an everyday tool of technology, these methods have traditionally been excluded from patentability as "non-technical subject matter" or "abstract ideas". We describe the changes in patentability criteria in Europe and in the USA, and illustrate the development of patenting activity in this field during the last decade. Practisers should be aware of these changes, and investigate the possibilities they might offer.

Experiences, both in the area of research and development tasks, as well as those from the project-implementation undertakings concerning IT support of statistical production, indicate that the use of developed mathematical modelling methods is too small in relation to potential possibilities. The aim of the research is to demonstrate that the effects of mathematical modelling in the field of statistical research not only can contribute to the improvement of data processing efficiency in official statistics, but also affect the quality of functional requirements for IT support for statistical surveys. This objective was achieved by discussing the general mathematical model of statistical research, with particular emphasis on the basic phases of statistical production (collection, processing, analysis and dissemination of statistical data), as well as by indicating optimization tasks and benefits resulting from problems that may occur in the process of IT support design. In order to confirm the usefulness of the presented approach, the concept of integration of the effects of mathematical modelling and the traditional design of IT support was presented in the form of a UML diagram.
