Learning to memorize the Quran presents a challenge. This paper reports the development and alpha testing of a mobile application called “EzHifz” for Quran memorization based on the VARK learning style. The application received positive feedback for user acceptance testing and heuristic testing. The Fleiss kappa coefficient (κ) results for user acceptance testing show a very good level of agreement (κ = 0.850). Heuristic testing results show that κ = 0.731 for content, manual guide, memorization activities, performance information, and tasmik assessment attributes, while κ = 0.727 for presentation design, interactivity, multimedia elements, attraction, and motivation attributes. These results show a good level of agreement, which indicates that the EzHifz application meets the requirements of design and development based on the attributes evaluated. A combination of memorizing techniques in the application helps strengthen the use of preferred VARK learning styles. The techniques support the use of multiple senses that could facilitate the process of memorizing the Quran independently. This study contributes to the novel design and evaluation of the Quran memorization application based on the Quran memorization model. The application supports the teaching and learning of Quran memorization where it allows students to select their preferred VARK learning style with the technique of memorizing the Quran. This mobile application learning approach based on VARK’s learning style has the potential to be implemented in the process of memorizing the Quran as well as retaining memory through the use of memory senses in support of the learning materials developed.

Online educational platforms increasingly allow learners to consume content at their own pace with on-demand formats, in contrast to the synchronous content of traditional education. Thus, it is important to understand and model learner engagement within these environments. Using data from four business courses hosted on Coursera, we model learner behavior as a two-stage decision process, with the first stage determining across-day continuation versus quitting and the second stage determining within-day choices among lectures, quizzes, and breaks. By modeling the heterogeneity across learners pursuing lecture and quiz completion goals, we capture different patterns of consumption that correspond to extant theories of goal progress within an empirical field setting. We find that most individuals exhibit a learning style where lecture utility changes as an inverted-U-shaped function of current progress. Our model may also be used as an early detection system to anticipate changes in engagement and allows us to relate learning styles to final performance outcomes and enrollment in additional courses. Finally, we examine the role of quizzes in how consumption patterns vary across learners in different courses and between those who have paid or not paid for the option to earn a course certificate.

Sekolah sebagai instansi pendidikan formal yang merupakan tempat untuk mencari ilmu, dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar. Sistem pendidikan nasional di Indonesia juga diatur dalam Undang-Undang Nomor 20, yang menyatakan bahwa pendidikan dasar merupakan prasyarat dasar untuk jenjang pendidikan yang lebih tinggi. SMK NU merupakan sekolah menengah kejuruan yang berada di Kecamatan Gondanglegi Kabupaten Malang. Namun terdapat beberapa masalah seperti penyebarluasan tentang informasi yang dilakukan secara konvensional, proses pendaftaran dan seleksi murid yang masih dilakukan secara manual, proses evaluasi murid yang lama untuk melihat seluruh nilai mata pelajaran, serta pendataan alumni juga sulit dilakukan. Maka dari itu diperlukannya suatu sistem informasi yang dapat membantu menangani masalah tersebut. Proses pendaftaran dan seleksi murid, serta pengisian nilai dapat dipermudah dengan menggunakan sistem informasi pada penelitian ini yang dibangun dengan metode agile dan diimplementasikan pada website, berdasarkan hasil pengujian User Acceptance Testing yang diberikan kepada pihak orang tua calon murid selaku pendaftar (nilai persentase UAT sebesar 85%), dan pihak guru selaku penyeleksi calon murid (nilai persentase UAT sebesar 80%), serta pihak guru selaku penilai murid (nilai persentase UAT sebesar 90%).
